2019-nCoV Coronovirus (COVID-19]

I don't think it's a flu bug. I don't think it's flu at all. A person can have flu and coronavirus simultaneously.

 

Had something two years ago that affected me for about a month.
I had a cold that turned out to be the worst chest infections i'd ever had.

I don't see where it mentions its the flu.

The Flu is influenza. This is a coronavirus which along with rhinoviruses are things which are commonly known as a 'cold'.

 

Um, actually this is what that source says:

"Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness caused by a new virus [italics my own]."

Johns Hopkins Medicine says this:

"Although the symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu can look similar, the two illnesses are caused by different viruses."

This one is more deadly.
It's treated the same way as you would if if you had gastro and a cold.
It's caused more by those who have travelled from china and iran. (be careful @Orison)

 

The time clock where I work at is one of those deals where you punch in your employee number then place your index finger on a pad; your fingerprint is then scanned and your identity verified (which is a stupid setup for a small company like the one I work for; everyone knows everyone else.) So I complained about that today, everybody using their "nose-picking" finger and all to clock in. By the end of the day hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes had appeared next to the time clock.

 

Well.... at least they didn't run around chopping off fingers. Seems like a good company you work for.

Nah, they're cool...a couple are pretty damn lazy though.

Another creepy aspect of all this is the business fallout. People going without work in some cases. Italy shutting down and not letting anyone in or out. It’s affecting everyone in some way, even if we don’t contract the virus. Feels a bit Walking Dead-ish. Now wouldn’t be a good time to watch that series.

 

I look at it like, the big corporations losing money. I like that. All the filling stations missing out on business, been saying it for years just get everyone to not drive for a week and our fuel prices will come down, maybe that's what will happen now.

 

It's total overreaction. If I lived in a highly populated area where cases had been confirmed, had a compromised immune system and was elderly then yes, I'd take some precautions.

People are panicking too much over a virus that has yet to hit them and their family.
Once it hits your own family that's when you need to panic.

This is how gross and selfish many people who have gastro or a cold are like. They go to work or school and make everyone sick with their lurgy.
My parents only just got back from seeing my brother and his family overseas.
They were fine and well right up until last wednesday when they both started to feel sick.
They both have had gastro and now dad has a nasty cough.

Luckily i don't live with them otherwise i would have copped their gastro.

Lots of vomiting from what i heard.
They are staying home until they feel better.

 

From what I can glean from the very not thorough skimming I did from linked information... It's a strain of cold that can kill the elderly. Is that about right?

 

And that's the panic, because of the Boomers. They always thought they were invincible PAH!
