The mortality rate would almost certainly be higher that way, either directly from COVID-19 or by other causes, because the hospitals would be overwhelmed. I'm not so sure about economic benefits either, because a lot of services wouldn't necessarily be able to continue to operate if everyone was sick at the same time.
