Is it certain that once a person recovers from covid-19 that they gain resistance to reinfection? Because I've heard nothing about that.

I don't think we know yet...

I would guess that this virus is likely to form several mutations in the future, much like the flu does.

I have read that it's possible to be re-infected; though I have no idea why or how they would know that. Well, I know why they would know it - because it's pertinent. But how? No clue... It would take longer to establish that as fact.

So, I think that has been reported out of an abundance of caution.

I have been in relative isolation for days; only going outside to retrieve mail from the mailbox. & I don't mind it really. The main difference between this and my normal routine is less pigging out (lol) because food is a pain to get delivered, and of course classes are online (attendance is taken once a week). Happy camper.

I hope everyone is well, and for goodness sakes @TipsyGypsy get with your doctor! :)

    Medical professionals skipped quarantine

Dozens of medical professionals ignored police orders to quarantine and jumped on domestic flights home after flying into Sydney Airport from South America on Friday.

Twenty-seven people skipped the mandatory 14 days in isolation and flew interstate after returning into the country, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

They will now be served with public health orders.

Another six were located at the domestic terminal and sent back into quarantine, a NSW Police spokesperson said.

"Disappointed to hear medical professionals chose to ignore rules in place to save lives and protect the most vulnerable in our community. No-one is above the law," Police Minister David Elliot said.

The Herald reported the medical professionals had flown into Australia from Santiago in Chile after attending a health convention onboard two Antarctic cruises."

Ugh, it's just getting dumber and dumber

So instead of just quarantining at their final destination, they are supposed to do 2 weeks in one state, two weeks on another???

Not that they will end up paying the fine anyway

no I dont believe they do..

    however this is my thoughts..
the virus transmission may be the reason for mild symptoms.
transmit via handshake= the viral load to attack is low= mild symptoms
transmit via cough mist=the viral load to attack is high=heavy symptoms

    Right.

I can't stand it. Some people still driving around with their arm hanging out the window like they want everyone to know that there's nothing different about right now than any other time. It makes me queazy... :confounded:

    unless someone coughs...

& not just that. It's the attitude that "nothing is wrong".

I suppose we all cope with disaster in different ways. But it seems really obtuse to me when I see that. Like they really have no clue how to behave rationally.

@soulcompromise are you upset with folks who are still able to relax? Kinda sounds like it.

Yeah... You're not gonna catch it by stepping out your front door. That's not how it works.

In Rhode Island the State Police are pulling over cars with New York State license plates, and are ordering them to self-quarantine for 14 days, or turn around and leave.

We have the same here in Massachusetts only it's an advisory, not an order, so the state police are not pulling cars over, YET.

It's not that I'm upset with people who can relax... I am fortunate enough to be comfortable in isolation.

It's the potential spreading of the disease... the relaxed attitude that has me perturbed. I don't know why you would want to create the impression that "oh, it's business as usual - window down, arm a-hangin'" right now.

It's more serious than that. To me at least.

Too serious for the arm-hang haha.
Sorry, not mocking you. I just find that particular line in the sand amusing, but I get what you're saying.

Basically just total bullshit, your body develops antibodies that's how you get over it in the first place. If you get infected again the next year it would be because it's a different strain of the virus. It's a 100% certain they are immune to the strain they originally get infected by. Otherwise everyone that gets it would die

SARS 1 resistance is 2 years
    Influenza A and B 6 months

Still no vaccine for SARS 1 and that was 17 years ago

No vaccines for any viruses in the Coronavirus family, none

The common cold is caused by a few different viruses, sometimes RSV, some times other Coronaviruses

So, that is what everybody is sitting around waiting for, a cure for the common cold
