2,483,539 children experienced homelessness in the US last year. Statistic findings by NCFH.

    Myths about America's homeless

Most of the homeless have a severe mental illness. In fact only 13 to 15 percent of the homeless in the US are mentally ill.

Homeless people don't work. According to a national study by the Urban Institute, about 45 percent of homeless adults had worked in the past 30 days -- only 14 percentage points lower than the employment rate for the general population last month. The number of working homeless would probably be even higher if "off the books" work was included. Whether scavenging for scrap metal or part-time staffing, many homeless people adopt ingenious ways to subsist. A recent job loss is the second most common reason people say they became homeless.

The Department of Justice estimates that every year, over 1.7 million teens experience homelessness in the US.

According to HUD's 2014 Point-in-Time Report, 39% of the total homeless population is under 24, 89% of this total are boys. Of that number, approximately 42% were younger than age 5.

According to estimates by the Urban Institute, nearly half of homeless male youths living in America will not live to see their 24th birthday.

The number one cause of death between homeless youths in America is hyperthermia the second leading death is malnutrition.

Over 50% of young people on the streets report that their parents told them to leave or knew they were leaving and didn't care.

Of youth who run away, 41% have been abandoned by their parents for at least 24 hours and 43% have been beaten by a caretaker.

    facts don't lie

when the u.s government does a census to see how many people are homeless, always understand that they underestimate it on purpose because its bad for business.

America is like a giant marketing center for the rest of the world.
however the rest of the world doesn't wear Prada anymore.

You're saying "America" when what you are addressing are faults of the government. Most Americans are honest and charitable people or the system would have failed long ago. More people on this planet eat today because of the innovations of Americans, not the US government. Granted, a government is necessary to keep so many people on the same national path. But homelessness has far more causes than to lay it all at the feet of the Americans.

For one, jobs are being automated out of existence many times faster than even the industrial revolution. Just try to get a typewriter fixed these days. And don't get me started on the collapse of the buggy whip industry (revived slightly by the B&D fetish industry). But today the slide into automation is wiping out jobs nobody ever thought would go away. The lower the skill level, the more likely it will be automated. Which is why a $15 per hour minimum wage is actually easy to grant. It shuts everyone up, but there's no way the people marching for it today will see a dime of it.

Because the jobs at the minimum wage now, will no longer exist, most of them anyway. Fast food jobs will be gone, even the cashiers. It will all be by card or other media. Which is fine since so few of the cashiers I see today can count back change anyway. The other benefit is that the days of finding bodily matter from disgruntled fast food workers will soon be over. So everyone who takes solace in saying "well, I guess I could always flip burgers for a living" will never get the chance.

I predict homelessness to escalate and we'll soon have refugee camps all over the country. We already have a network of "bum camps" just beyond the tree line of many freeway overpasses and ramps. The problem isn't the fault of the Americans. It's the fault of both progress and failed economic AND social programs. The nation needs a massive reset. Unfortunately few know how to predict it or how to survive it. In the end, we all make our own bed I guess.

Also, I think this pic is from Amsterdam.

ok, have more kids, people, so you can give up on them...kick them out of your lives like garbage. When do parents step up to the plate with this problem.....We can blame the govt. all we want to, but everything starts at home. To not give a hoot about your children, no matter how old they are, seems unbelievable to me.....unbelievable.....

Many times the parents were kids when the children were born... Or those of adult age that never grew up in the first place. They are not going to step up to the plate, they never wanted the responsibility to begin with.

People toss their animals onto highways, garbage dumpsters and things, too, so i am not surprised really...but....what does one do about it?

Most of the animals were wanted at first.

Maybe... Maybe wanted for the wrong reasons.

But back to the op... even if the parents never wanted these kids, it's not the kids fault for not being wanted.

    Who knows why
    Someday we all must die
We're all homeless boys and girls
    And we are never heard
It's such a lonely, lonely, lonely world
    People turn their heads
    And walk on by
Tell me is it worth just another try

Light of the world, shine on me
    Love is the answer
Shine on us all, set us free
    Love is the answer

the combination building codes, and a culture that romanticizes and rewards aggressiveness, are the only reason there is such a thing as homelessness. for children, or anyone else.

As Rome went into the rapidly declining phase, the Roman leaders had already shifted from serving the public good to serving only their highest paying supporters. The age of Roman decadence has parallels today. One that's particularly interesting was the way Roman families of means would promote their chefs. They had great culinary competitions and some chefs were exalted to celebrity status. Some would earn a year in wages just to cook 1 night for a Roman senator. It was all about status.

Meanwhile, the population was easily distracted with free food and shows in the arenas. And Rome built arenas all over the world. It's easy to look back even then and blame the Romans for their problems. But the reality is that the ruling class caused it all. One of the many riot starters then was the games played with the money. First they made the coins smaller. Then they made copper coins and plated them. The plate wore off when handled and when the citizens realized what was happening, they murdered the bankers.

John of Patmos wrote in exile about Nero. But he feared execution should his writing be discovered. So he assigned Nero a numeric code, 666. (The revelation already happened folks)

This recurring theme of the rich seeking and grabbing power while common citizens suffer, has seemingly no restrictive alternative/s, as those of a type have ALWAYS acted

out of greed and malice for those that don't share their avarice. It's what they've done and what they do, as the current state of affairs amply shows.

This phase reminds me of an Esher print with a creature eating itself, as is happening concerning the earths resources. It's much more serious this time.

"The more things change, the more they remain the same." Survival of the fittest.
