The way things stand at the moment, I don't see much of a societal revolution happening in the near future. The momentum is not there and the situation is not desperate enough to bring aboard the marginal individual. You have to get the huge multitude of fence sitters to come aboard. It would take a major event like the draft being re-instituted, something along those lines and even then it would take some time and organization to pull off anything like what happened in the 60's. The political solution seems to be far off, in my opinion, for the reasons stated. I guess the "drop-out" philosophy is the best solution for the moment. I have tried to work around the soceital obstacles to truth and peace the best I can as I learn and evolve personally. It is taking a lot of determination and imagination. Counter-culture evolution seems to me to be the clarion call. It is an individual by individual awakening. I guess the best thing to do is to facilitate through education the "turning on and tuning in" one by one, so each one can "drop out". I believe the time will come when what you seek will happen, but the necessary precursors have not happened yet. Keep the faith.
I agree totally with what you said. I have said things similar to this, and the most comon response I get is "HOw can you be so BLIND Dylan! You are only looking at hte bad things, and by doing that, THAT is how our world will fall apart!" NO, not at ALL. By not doing anything and blindly being happy with what we have is how our world will fall apart. We cant just sit around pretending that things are good, or ignoring the bad. Our world certainly can, and IS turning into 1984. in my household, theres a tv in each bedroom (cept my MOms room). I used to watch TV back when I was in elementary school and some of middle school, but now that I am in high school I refuse to watch it, unless of course I am at a friends house who wants to watch it. Television is SO unnesecary, its a 30 second tv show, with 30 minute commercials, flashy, and catchy, neon, and blinding. People mouth empty words of wisdom and advice and demands into peoples heads, and they silently, almost subconsciously take those words in.... THROW AWAY YOUR TELEVISION! Cheers, Dylan
SOmetimes, I think we are all fucked, but I think that sometime in our lives, something BIG is going to happen, something that is going to be like a SMACK across the face to all those people who thinks us hippies are stupid. i was actually discussing this with my best friend's dad last night. he made some excellent points. nearly everything in 1984 has truth to it.
Thats why after 57 years , people still talk about it. Even if some have constructed the book around the present reality. Rather then reality around the book. Or is that the other way around ?. Anway it suits some peoples ideology to 'believe' in 1984 (just like the bible) .. it is only thoughts and ideas. Can i watch 'Medium cool' again before i do that, it is on tonight .
