    He is 14?
    Here i was thinking a child under 10. I don't know. I have not read up on this case at all....but it is upsetting all the way around.
    Not knowing the 14 year old it is hard to say...or other people involved here....Is he a brilliant inventor? clocks? a practical joker? someone who wanted to scare people....? ...a smart ass?.....looking for attention?.....etc. etc.....
    It is sad this world needs to be on high alert.....but it does.....I have also always believed one can never be too careful...I myself would prefer to err on the side of caution than the alternative....
    Seems a bit much that is kid is being rewarded for now....will that encourage others to make things to scare people that are not bombs now, too?

    I think things just got way out of hand here all the way around.....and this case makes me sad and feel angry, too.

    duh...it says he was 14 in title of thread. that is what happens when my head hurts....lol
    it does not hurt today.

    Everythings a fucking potential bomb these days, The terrorists have won! We are all just a bunch of trembling idiots. OMG I don't know what that is, it must a bomb!

    Last summer I was riding my bicycle downtown, carrying my trumpet w/case inside a backpack and someone said to me;

    " Whaddya got in the backpack, a bomb?

    I said;

    "No, quite the opposite. It's an an instrument of love."

    His engineering teacher saw it and wasn't concerned. The principal could have checked with that teacher and prevented any of this from happening. They didn't think it was a bomb. I think they thought he made something that looked like a bomb to freak people out or something. Like a kid bringing a realistic toy gun to school. My guess is that they wanted to make an example of him, and it backfired.

    I heard that "make an example of" bullshit the whole time I was in school. It's an excuse to be excessively hard on a kid that is generally hated by the teachers. The "example" angle is easy to challenge in court the moment they use the term. It demonstrates bias.

    With that in mind, I have to wonder what bias was in play here. And how Ahmed may have enhanced it. We still know very little. What I know is that he didn't "make a clock". He disassembled an existing clock and put it into a metal-sided case (though too thin to actually shield it from X-Rays). The fact it still had an AC cord should have been the first flag. Also the 9v battery is not shown, the oinkers probably took it out, but it's just the memory backup for when the power goes out. It can't be reconfigured for a blasting cap or even a light bulb (which make great igniters).

    After considering this a while I think maybe the kid had at least some idea that this could be perceived as a suitcase bomb, which have probably been around for about as long as suitcases. Or maybe he watches too much Archer. Not a good show for a 14 year old. Or Burn Notice maybe, lots of fake bombs in that show. But I still think it was harmless even as a prank. I seriously doubt that kid has the talent for rewiring an existing digital clock to work as a bomb timer. Especially when all you have to do to disarm it is unplug it from the wall or cut the power to the building.

    As for his faith, his father is clearly the driver of that cart.

    we also dont know any of kids previous history

    this might not be the first time ...

    i find it sketchy that the school cannot/will not make any statement until they have written permission from the kids parents..i have a feeling there is way more backstory

    It's kind of a fitting project when you think about it. All Islam needs to take over the world is time...

    Well, it's obviously the teacher's fault. After all as one poster said teacher unions have made it impossible to fire ANY teachers at all.

    It seems we have to get rid of those darn teacher unions before we can ever come to grips with this situation.

    I mean here we get a little blurb about a kid bringing an unknown device to school, the teacher has no reason to be suspicious as there has never been an episode of kids killing their fellow students in a school, never been an episode of a student claiming there is a bomb in school, no reason at all to try and discover whether the stated motive was the real motive or not.

    So the police are called in...and they too panic as the thought crosses their minds that the kid may have had in mind a "bomb scare". So they investigate. They shouldn't have done that at all. They should have laughed it off, and walked away. But you see the police also have a union, which we know is the real problem. Unions.

    And now we have arm chair detectives who know all the background of the student, the school, the atmosphere in the school, the history of bomb scares and murder in schools and their motives, the technical knowledge of what a bomb looks like, the teacher's history and technical background, the rational of the police and administrators, etc.; in addition they are adolescent psychologists.

    I say next time a student brings a suspicious object to school and claims it's a clock, everyone involved believes him or her completely and then just sits around and waits to see if it explodes or not.

    Then only take some sort of action if it does. We don't want to hurt anyone's feelings after all.

    Oh, and get rid of those dam unions.
    And I almost forgot, one of the prime prerequisites of being a teacher in today's society is that you must be well versed in Bomb Making 101, preferably with a master's degree in high explosives or you will be terminated.
