If I was good at photoshop id have Elaine running out of the bathroom holding a whole bunch of likes.

 

I got a lot of red messages from people on the rep system. good times

At the time I liked the reputation system with green dots followed by green bars. I liked the messages that came with them too. But in a way, I’m glad they’re gone. Having lots of green dots and a visible post count is almost like a superficial status symbol.

 

I also got lots of red dots. but they were generally from the same bunch of losers who would just neg rep for the sake of neg rep. Once you had a hater, all your posts were neg reps lol.

I don't know. I get what you're saying and occasionally I have felt a bit uncomfortable about the Like thing.. I remember Ged made a thread last summer about not using it.
At the same time, we're humans using a website to bond with each other and sometimes it's really just that in real life I would smile or make some other non-verbal communication. It's important to me that I "like" things said by people I don't like so much, if the post is one I would like by someone I liked.. so I would like to say my "likes" are always genuine to the post and not just a way of targeting specific people to make feel good.

 

That's fair-minded of you Driftrue. Though I find the people here who I don't like I rarely like their posts. But the reason I don't like them is because of what they say, so that in itself means I'm not going to like most of their posts. It is stroking someone's ego to like their post, as @Total Darkness mentioned. But we do all have egos, and that's not a bad thing, it keeps us going through life. I think having an ego is healthy and human. If you're off the scale one way or the other is when it becomes a problem.

 

Ah, even some of the idiots on here say some funny things sometimes, or share a nice photo : )
