What conflict in violent nature? No conflicts are settled everything is always in contention. Altercations are kept to a minimum by a variety of means such as simply moving just right. One of the most stupefying ideas that we face is that man is guilty of causing harm because it insures that men will be inhumane toward each other and if not the other you will blame yourself and react in and way not that restores justice but causes further insult to precious lives. Harm has no face, you are far more likely than not as a matter of course to be cut, burned, bruised, or broken at some point. We are bumping into each inadvertently and stupidly because we think we are responsible for our existential conditions. We are not as we are born in to the world and from there we are responsible for our conditional arrangements for dealing with conditions.
I never imply anything. I say exactly what I mean and mean exactly what I say. I'm a simpleton like that. I didn't say Brown's death is sensationalized because of "Middle Eastern people" but I do make the distinction that his death was significantly more sensational that the beheading of an American journalist. I presume that is because it goes with the territory of 1) part of war 2) over there. Still, these two incidents are showcased. If there were an official measurement, Brown surpasses the journalist.
I don't think I'm mistaken at all, given the very wide frame of reference. And I'm not in agreement that 9/11 was terrorism. I've always seen it as divine.
That's true, but other than humans and ants, I can't think of any other species that actually have organized mass destruction of those perceived to be the problem. The thing is though that wars are generally started by greedy and arrogant old men, who know they'll never have to face a bullet or a shell. Hence there is a kind of propaganda which is very general but pro-war. Even now in the UK the way in which WWI is being commemorated has a distinctly jingoistic flavour. It's very unfashionable to assert that the whole thing was a huge mistake - a mistake that led only to further wars and brutal tyranny. This beheading of Foley is causing diverse reactions on either side of the Atlantic. American's are outraged that one of their own has been killed, and we are outraged because it was done by a British jihadist. Far more outraged than by the murder or enslavement of Yezidis, Christians and others by IS, even though we're talking large numbers of wholly innocent people. Even though it's probable IMO that the rise of IS is in part a direct result of the Iraq war.
Which nature, human nature of something larger than life .. like weather systems? I don't think violence is humanity's true nature. I think violence destroys our true nature. Well I know it does.
We're outraged? I guess some are. Other than on TV, I haven't heard anybody mention it. So the guy had a British accent. Not sure why I should care. Everything is international these days. How about the food chain? Animals kill each other every second of every minute.
For animals, I suppose their nature seems violent to us. We aren't animals (though, some people sure like to think of themselves that way). I can't say I'm not a violent person. I am, actually. But I wasn't born violent and I didn't take well to being bullied as a little girl. I remember very clearly the day I snapped, and changed, for the worst, in 5th grade. I couldn't forget it if I wanted to. It's like something in me died that day. It wasn't natural. I never would have snapped if I wasn't suffering at home and at school. Was I the abnormal one, up until the day I snapped?
Are you kidding me? Have you seen footage of a lion or tiger bringing down a gazelle? It's incredibly violent! The animals appear to suffer great pain before death. I haven't had violent experiences, so I've always been a peaceful person. You can make a decision to change. You aren't a little girl anymore. You aren't in that situation. You have legal rights, and personal freedom. I believe that anybody who is still alive has the power to change, up until you draw your last breath. Nobody has to be a slave to the past.
My point is to demonstrate how NOT natural violence is to human beings, using my lived experience as the example. I'm not here for guidance or counseling, but I appreciate that you mean well. The way animals *have* to eat is not their own choosing.. that's just the way it is for them. The violence of animals killing and eating doesn't compare to the brutalization that human being put each other through. WE are not animals, unless so severely degraded.
It isn’t war that we’ve come to accept. We’ve come to accept the will of our so-called leaders as being above and beyond the will of the people. That is what has become accepted as normal. We've been conditioned to defer to authority from day one on this planet, even when that authority calls for the destruction of innocent people and their homes.
I think there's a reason why some people consider the United States to be the terrorist .. both people outside of this country, and those in it.
I mean really that the politicians and the media in our respective countries are expressing outrage. So naturally, a lot of people go with that. I didn't mean people like you and me. Or many other forum members. One problem over here is that the 'Jihadi John' thing, which has become quite big in the British press, is another factor to stir up hate against Muslims in the UK. That makes the Muslims more inclined to draw back into their own communities, which in turn feeds into the potential radicalization of young Muslim men living here, in a country that doesn't represent them at all, and in which they have no real stake. A recipe for future strife and potential violence. And all the time the gutter press is stoking the flames. As are right wing politicians. They say 'John' is an Islamic fanatic, but fail to point out that there are psychopathic personalities in every race and religion. My feeling is that if you are prepared to cut off someone's head for an ideology, then that is psychopathy.
Fuck you. It's still violence. Natural or not, I don't have to like it. No. I know the difference between those two words.
