Very good point, newo. But then, some of us haven't lost our idealism, either. The difference now is that it sits side by side with a more accepting realism. And it's not so ready to simply toss things out. I see now that social evolution is similar to physical evolution in that only rarely does the new completely replace the old. Most often, the new has to accommodate the old. It's a process of modifying old institutions to make them fit a new world.

And that's not "selling out". It's compromise, and in a world of many different points of view, compromise is what's needed most of all.

I really miss the lack of plastic, it was much nicer when glass, metal and wood were used as packaging:(

The lack of danger to us in the 40s-50s. Up in the morning and off to my friends house to see what the day would bring and not coming home 'till 6PM to eat and then then going right back out, maybe to play hide and seek in the park across from my house. Going to the movies for 12 cents after having a 30 cent hand made burger with a 30 cent chocolate shake and an ass pocket full of tooth-shortener with money left over! The endless summer days with doves cooing overhead---(love to hear doves now--brings it back)."Working" for a dime knocking wasp nests down in peoples yards and eaves and then buying BBs for my BB gun. Having BB gun fights!Ouch! Walking in fog so thick that visibility was about 10 feet in front of me, feeling like we were being shielded from grown-ups and their world. Family getting together for x-mas with what seemed like hundreds of presents---mostly for ME!! Oh---on and on. Different world. Way different world. Better? Maybe not-- I suppose kids have their own type of fun nowadays. But it sure as hell was for me growing up in a town of 1800-2000. Very Tom Sawyer-like.

Next: Basketball, softball. Damn I miss playing!! (and playing doctor with my little friends that were girls. Had to learn somewhere).

Yeah. We come and we go and are soon forgotten. The world will hum along without us. So it goes.

We used to pick up golf balls at the local driving range. Obviously, that was in the days before those tractor contraptions that pick them up. We got a quarter a bucket, and we could easily make a couple bucks in the afternoon after school.

Ha! I was one of those girls.

Thinking that one day I would be an adult and would have it all figured out.
Truth is, no one knows what they are doing.

I don't miss the 80s, but I do miss being young.

I think what I miss the most is being able to play without feeling like an idiot or like I should be ashamed of myself. Sometimes I think that's why people with kids are happier... because they get to play with them.

    Hmm..I'm 61

I COULD say I miss being free,

being able do as I please,
being able go to the beach every weekend, :sunny:
being able to run up mountains every day,

to eat tropical fruit every day for almost free,

feeling GREAT, strong limber, full of energy

    play with friends,

spend alot of time running around in the wilds,

    riding horses-

    wait...

You're gonna laugh, guys. I miss showing my masculinity in those tight pants we wore. I think we called them loons? I felt I was in a brotherhood of guys, showing what was naturally there between my legs - just as girls automatically showed what they had up top. See - knew you were gonna laugh!
