I grew up in Mattapan. I heard it from pretty much everybody I knew including my best friends and even my teachers (not that Boston public schools really qualify as schools, they're more like part time juvie halls). Mattapan's the place to go if you want diseased whores or drugs or to get shot. Spend some time on Blue Hill Ave and you'll know what I'm talking about. Busing was just soooo much fun in Mattapan....I got spit on, chased with a hammer (no joke), and our house got shot up. Woo hoo! Fortunately for me my parents got divorced and we moved.

And of course there was four years in the Army where "only white people can be racist" was usually preceded by being called a cracker.

I even heard it from Al Sharpton. Ever listen to his radio show?

And let me preempt the inevitable "You're a racist" comments by stating I'm in an interracial marriage (I'm not implying you're going to call me a racist, Theprodu, but I hear that a lot as a white guy speaking openly about growing up in a black neighborhood. Those comments are inevitable from the feel-good-about-myself crowd. The truth isn't always as PC as people would like it to be).

 

I think you are exaggerating just a bit. What you seek you shall receive.

 

Several media outlets were reporting this immediately after the shooting including CNN. They were also claiming she was dead so initial reports weren't exactly accurate.

It's not so hard to believe considering he'd been bragging about what he was going to do on social media. I don't know if it's true though, just putting it out there.

I've been told the same years ago before I retired by three black co-workers who were also good friends although we didn't agree on many political issues. Their reasoning was that blacks lacked the power possessed by whites, and therefore could not impose upon whites based upon their race. That was nearly three decades ago, but I've heard others make the same claim that 'only whites can be racists' on both TV and radio, but can't recall for certain who it was. Googling, I found several links relating to celebrities who have made the claim but I can't remember which of them I may had heard saying it. I saw where Oprah Winfrey claimed that racism will disappear when all the old white guys die, but there will always be old white guys living unless something happens to eliminate us at a much younger age, so maybe she was just trying to say in a round about way that racism will never disappear?

I get the impression you haven't spent any time in poor inner city neighborhoods because you don't seem to understand the level of hatred that exists in those neighborhoods. I wouldn't wish that upon you either. I mentioned busing - how would it make you feel knowing that despite the media claiming it was all about white racism, the truth is that the only people shot, stabbed, and murdered during the busing riots were white?

Ask and I shall receive? Receive what? A wonderful wife? Yeah, I got that. I most certainly didn't ask to be raised in Mattapan, but my parents grew up in the projects so for them it was a step up.

I see where you're coming from, but as you said, four people still died that day. Two cops, who were most likely pretty decent people of the non-awful variety, the gunman's poor girlfriend, and the gunman himself. Whether or not cops generally are not the most unbiased/kind people, the fact of the matter is four lives were lost, and for what? Nothing.
