I really admire you. I could not live with Dad. When that time comes he will need to go into assisted living or memory care.

I was still working when Mom was declining. When she couldn't walk and was severely into Alzheimer's, Dad had to place her in a nursing home. I went most evenings to help her eat dinner and I was there Sunday mornings. It just about did me in. If she wasn't in a nursing home I thought Dad would die trying to take care of her. As it was he was hospitalized and in the nursing home at least two times while she was there. I retired early, in part, to help with Dad. I am his main driver and take him to doctor appointments, going right into the exam room with him. My brother comes to visit Dad every Friday and takes him shopping, haircuts, banking etc. Neither of us could do 24/7 live in care.

 

Thank you for saying that. I definitely will not have a child just for the sake of it, or in response to parental pressure.

 

See, husband and I won't need kids to care for us when we grow old. We'll go into a retirement community and stir up trouble there.

 

If your maternal desires start getting to you, I think your idea about adopting an older child is fabulous. You/y'all would be providing a much needed home for a kid that probably would never be adopted or fostered otherwise.

Well, I do know that some people have made fostering older children a way to have built-in servants which is HORRIBLE. I know you wouldn't do that.

You are still young with lots of years to go before being concerned about adopting or fostering.

Although I did say to my husband the other day, that just because I don't want my own kids, doesn't mean I still don't want to do the kid stuff. Like Disneyland.

Not that I don't admire and have much respect for women who choose to have children. You ladies are amazing and incredible.

Today I went over to that "new" Yellowjacket nest that I found the other day... I marked it last evening with a stick, they did not like that.... but are still using the same hole. About 5 feet way I noticed some activity.... There is a small burrowing Bumble Bee nest right next door to the Yellowjackets. This looks to be a dangerous area to mow.
