I asked a specific YES/NO question of the tarot about an individual on this site, and this was my response:

Alternatively, perhaps the card is indicating that the situation need not be taken so seriously.

 

I never heard of this card. What deck is it from?

 

Strange.

 

No that deck. I couldn't find a "Valley" card in it, and the deck is just strange to me anyway.

 

Silly me, I didn't scroll down the page when I clicked on "The Cards"!!!

 

Morgan was someone in a commune north of San Francisco who created this deck in the late 1960s. It was popular in the early 70s... and was long out of print. It is still hard to find one of these decks, which were all black and white. I have a deck that was hand painted, it is in storage for safekeeping while I am travelling.

It's a long personal story as to how I found them... so here it goes.

Years in the past I lived with hippies on a houseboat in a lagoon off the east end of St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands (where I grew up).

We had no electricity, no refrigeration, just sailboats, houseboats, floating constructions and a string of tiny islets to visit beaches. It was a mile to the mainland, perfect for wild parties and gatherings. We'd sit around and read aloud from books or do readings from this deck.

We had one deck, brought to us by an older guy who had traveled the world. It had a sacred place on a table, which held a kerosene lamp. One evening someone got a bit wasted and knocked over the lamp, setting the table on fire. We saved the deck, but it was badly scorched.

I still have that deck, but also got a newer one recently that I use and travel with. For convenience I am copying from the website for the cards I pick to show you here.

There is more happening than you realize. Contemplate the situation deeply.

There are many states that require no intellectual effort to maintain, such as breathing, eating, dealing with the pressure of gravity, etc. In other words, our conscious activities are not directed toward the maintenance of the physical body.

However, we may have occasional glimpses of higher levels of consciousness. There may be, in those higher realms, enduring joy, peace and realization. Rational and intellectual means may guide us to the beginning of our journey.

The goal is postulated as eternal bliss and the task is to channel the universe into our consciousness by means that will become clearer as the cosmos and this instruction booklet unfold. The dancer cannot wait for the philosopher or even the historical poet. And the creative principle cannot be named.
