Did anyone catch this last week? It's a documentary that deals with U.S history when Florida was settled by the Spanish in the 1500's. I found it interesting. Check your local listings.

I thought it was interesting how they highlighted the differences with how the Spanish and English viewed race and mixing and how this seemed to contribute to tensions between the Spanish and English. The Spanish seemed more open to having a racially mixed population compared to the English. Plus under the Spanish slaves had certain rights not seen with English slavery.

they were still an invasion though, and who we can blame for the loss of to the rest of us, and especially to themselves, of the cultures that existed there before they descended upon it.
and especially of practical solutions to how to live there. that's what every 'conquest' screws itself out of. whatever their excuse or motivation.
