    I don't have morals. I'm amoral.

I used to be hardcore about the Golden Rule. I always, always treated others the way I would want them to treat me. And I'm not even Christian.

The Golden Rule was crucial to me.

I noticed everyone throughout life and around me not following suit. This includes Christians. For example, they weren't slow to anger.

They had me right where they wanted me.

Then one day I had an epiphany: The Golden Rule doesn't exist.

It just flat out doesn't exist. If it did, people would follow it.

Now I just use people. I'm sick of moral outrage. This makes life easier.

Samantha, this post makes me very sad. Remember there is also a thing called "Karma". You can't be responsible for the actions of others, only for your own. This place right here and now, is our Heaven. I'm not religious at all but I do believe it's my responsibility to make Heaven a reality in my world and that means for all those that I deal with, to the best of my ability. Well, that's how I see it. I don't put my views on anyone else. It's just how I choose to live, trying to be as happy as I can and to bring happiness with me wherever I go. Doesn't always work but I try my best.

a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.
    "the corruption of public morals"

    synonyms:

moral code, code of ethics, (moral) values, principles, standards, (sense of) morality, scruples

    "he has no morals"

so...that is the definition...if you have no morals you dont discern between right and wrong to any degree

which everyone does....everyone save people with mental ilnesses

There is a concept of karma, as for a tangible or even observable "thing" (as you've called it), no, there is not.

You're free to believe in whatever mumbo-jumbo you wish (personally, I think it would be cool if karma existed), however, in a thread dedicated to explaining ones morals, a comment insinuating that there is some sort of moral watchdog always on the prowl (that being karma), is not only counterproductive, it's worthy of ridicule regarding your understanding of the subject at hand.

    I'm very happy though.

I just don't believe in Karma and never have. There's no evidence for it. It sounds made up by people who want it to be real. Where would it have come from? Is it supported by science at all?

    Besides, no one's perfect.

For sure no one is perfect and it's silly for anyone to try to be - well in my books anyway. You are right there is no scientific proof of Karma or "What Goes Around Comes Around" but neither are religions based on science. So it's a belief I hold. I'm glad you are happy. I was just a bit taken aback when you said you "used people". Maybe though, we all do use people to one purpose or another. I'd like to think that I don't but well who knows, if I need my pipes fixed I call a plumber!

It's spot on too. I work karma into my life a lot to be honest. Not on the Internet, whoever I upset online I believe isn't going to effect my karma in real life, but my actions in the real world I believe, may just be reflected in the future. I'm not 100% certain my fate is penciled in by the Norns, but I'm positive my actions will determine an outcome.

  12. There doesn't need to be karma, because if you're an asshole you're an asshole.

but thinking about it...it is what you are that will attract others like you are to them......so in a way, that is instant karma....birds of a feather, water seeks its own level sort of thing.....but no karma for people born with illnesses, into starvation, etc...so no.....there is no karma for them and bad things happen to good people, like John Lennon....and good things happen to bad people, etc.....and for many animals...what did they ever do to anyone to be treated like many of them are....
so i conclude that....karma does not exist really.

I shoot the lights and I curse the dark
I need your love but I break your heart
And I know the words that'll bring you back
But I don't say nothing as I watch you pack
I had to work to be the jerk I've come to be
    It ain't easy being me

We are all born into certain situations, some attribute this to past karma, that is our actions in our past lives affect our present birth and life.
But it really doesn't matter if you believe that past actions affect this life or not. What matters is how you react to the situations you find yourself in at the present time.

We all find ourselves at different levels of existence. Some of us are physically handicapped, smarter than others, taller or shorter, nicer to look at, richer poorer, funnier pron to headaches, baldness, or unlucky in love. But what matters is how we conduct ourselves and how we empathize with others.

While the outcomes of our actions are never guaranteed, I choose to at least try to act in ways that I believe will have a positive effect on myself and others. Sometimes this requires action, sometimes restraint.

The problem of the truth of past lives and the accumulation of karma from past deeds has no effect on my present actions. I can't change the past, I can only act in the present and plan for the future.

We all act and any action has repercussions. I choose to act with the intent of maximizing those repercussions for the benefit of myself and others. In that regard karma exists as karma (kamma) is merely action and the intent of those actions has an effect on my outlook on life and personal philosophy and the results of that intent and action also affects others with whom I interact.

    yeah.....Meagain.... :)

I know the karma theory about past lives.....but what I was trying to say and failed miserably at is this....since there is no proof of that, only conjecture and only a way of making things make sense in this life....it is ok, if it is just a theory...kindness is its own reward....can be lonely at times....

I am always kind. i can lose my patience and temper at times and say things because i reached the boiling point...takes much for me to get to that point, and i am not perfect when I do....but that is all that is...words.... actions always speak louder than words.
