To ask how they feel about their ideology having never worked on a national level. As proven by history. Time after time.

Because the unions are so strong that the salaries stay high.

But hey, why don't you keep showing everyone how ignorant you are and start arguing that right-wing America has anything in common with Scandinavian society or politics.

And why is that? Probably, because there are none. Because Communism defined as Marxism-Leninism is a discredited system and communism defined as communal sharing is a pipe dream at the national level. Most posters on this thread seem to agree with that, and are mainly arguing against Six-eyed's simplistic views and effort to distract attention from the weakness of his own preferred utopian system, libertarianism. As for clean water, give Scott Pruitt time. He'll show us how unregulated capitalism can produce dirty water too. Libertarianism is also a pipe dream. Buy into it and we'll be back to flaming rivers in no time! (A reference to the Cuyahoga river in Cleveland catching fire in 1969. We may not have attained the "fishable and swimmable" goal for all U.S. waters under the Clean Water Act under previous administrations, but at least the water hasn't been flammable since then. From the Ashes of ’69, Cleveland's Cuyahoga River Is Reborn )

    Define "national."

Because a lot of indigenous tribespeople made communism work for millennia. In fact, prior to agriculture--which led to humans becoming static and living in complex societies that needed governing--communism was the way all people lived. If you take away the concept of private ownership, communism works quite well.

I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but this idea that it's never worked isn't entirely accurate.

I’m not sure. But I have gotten a few answers such as, “I’m not a communist, but........ (says something defending communism).....”

Communism never worked out the way Marx envisioned it, because it was all a hypothesis; it was tested, and it failed.

The whole world would have this figured out by now if Marx became a dictator like the people he inspired. Rather than an unkempt home dwelling nerd.

When you're in a hunter-gatherer tribe, you do need a small community to oversee each other. The bigger the tribe, the more individualistic it becomes. I'm not sure if large imperial tribes like Incas were communistic. Many tribes had chiefs and kings. Monarchy perhaps?

Another example people will say is functional communism is the nuclear family. But again, that's a household, not a nation.

Is China a "Communist" country? Communist billionaires? In what sense? Is Communism now a synonym for totalitarian state capitalism?

Communism is more commonly associated with the Soviet Model. State control of industry, which China does still largely implement.

China isn't Marxist, and Marxism may be the ideal implementation of Communism, but I don't think it's ever happened.

You base the comparison between America and China based on a guy thats been President for less than two years

Just sounds like Trump bashing and America bashing

More than 4 times as many people in china, most of whom still live in third world conditions, economic expansion over the last 30 years mainly from selling cheap crap to the rest of the world

How on earth is democracy failing?, how on earth is the American System in sad shape?, a handful of countries in the world that are doing better than the US, all of them democracies of course, but US would still be in the top ten. Whereas GDP per capita in China, still a mere 18,000, which ranks them 79th in the world.
An economic powerhouse now, just because they have so many friggin people, but 3/4 of them are still what we would classify as dirt poor. Half of them barely over the World Banks ridiculous catergorization of $1.90 per day being above the poverty line.

That is, if you think the american system is in a sad state, go live in rural china for 6 months

No country has ever been socialist, let alone communist

Socialist leaning policies, but no country has ever had every industry run by the community itself

I don't even know why you felt the need to start ranting about all of this shit... I wasn't comparing China to the US, and I wasn't saying China doesn't have a lot of poverty, or that the Chinese system is better. I said that the Chinese were right when they claimed that Trump is proof that democracy is failing. Obviously Trump isn't going to turn the US into rural China overnight... just push it in a terrible direction.

You don't need to suffer through four years of Trump to see that-- he was elected on promises that couldn't possibly be fulfilled, which proves that a lot of people are just as out of touch with reality as he is. They want quick, easy solutions. They want foreign scapegoats. They want to feel like they are striking back against the people who wronged them. You can't have a true democracy with a voter base so uninformed/poorly informed that they think a spoiled brat reality TV star has the answers to their problems-- it's absurd. On top of that, he was elected because he acted like an anti-democracy authoritarian wannabe dictator. So that means democracy is doing well??

The US isn't where it is because of democracy and it isn't where it is because of capitalism-- it is where it is because it's the biggest bully. It takes what it wants from anyone who has what it needs, and then has the gall to turn around and act like a victim. You talk about 'doing well'... what does that even mean? Who exactly is it that's 'doing well'? FFS... you tell me to go live in rural China, why don't you go live in urban Detroit? Or the fucking ghettos of Baltimore? Do you even know what life in rural China is like, or is that just something you say because you think it helps you win arguments?

The fucked up thing about the US isn't that it's not 'doing well' (but I know that I definitely would rather live in Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, etc.), it's that it should be doing much much better, but it isn't.

The main difference are your stupid gun laws and your healthcare system

Other than those two things, the US is a better place to live than the Union of European Socialist Republics

Oahu is the number 1 place I'd retire to if I didnt know a hip replacement was going to cost me 200 grand

You forgot better democracy, better education, higher levels of happiness and a government that is actually somewhat interested in creating a better society.

I seriously suggest you go to Cuba and find out what their healthcare is like. It is terrible as is their education system. I also find it interesting that the Democrats have pushed the senerio that trump is working with the Russians, when in fact Obama admin did. Putin’s anti American rhetoric extended to Obama’s admin and funnelled down to the people. Just Look into his reset policy that Obama’s brought in, which they said was a success. You might want to further look into what happened to many people trying to leave Cuba. They were shot at. Some died trying to escape. But hey let’s lift the embargo and watch as Russia sets up a military base in Cuba, since cuba is aligned with Russia.

You aren't seriously equating an attempt to establish peaceful relations with undermining democracy and hacking an election, are you?

    Yes, yes you are.

Have you gone to Cuba? The health care system actually seems to be quite good in most respects, considering the country's limited economic resources. The infant mortality rate in Cuba is lower than it is in the United States and is among the lowest in the world: 4.2 per thousand births. Average life expectancy in Cuba is quite good for Latin America: 78years. Cuba's emphasis on preventive medicine and linkage between health care and R&D have drawn praise from the Director General of the World Health Organization. As for education, there again the performance, by most standard indicators, is good for a poor developing country, and the government does give education high priority in expenditures. Thanks to literacy drives, 97% of Cubans ages 15–24 were literate by the twenty-first century. UNICEF found in 1998 that the test performance of the lower half of students in Cuba was significantly higher than that of the upper half of students in other Latin American countries. Since then though, teacher shortages have resulted in understaffed schools, and we can expect that education is suffering. We could also consider what students are taught. Indoctrination isn't education.

In other respects, I would agree Cuba is a brutal totalitarian system that has no room for individuals who don't toe the line. Critics face arbitrary detention and imprisonment without warrant, and detention is often used to preempt peaceful political demonstrations. What it would be like without the economic embargo imposed by the United States for over a quarter of a century is anybody's guess. Nice place to visit maybe, if you behave yourself, but I wouldn't want to live there.
