He's saying you can be a rich hippie, but that doesn't mean you can be a hippie who's a complete **** (e.g. Sonny & Cher).

 

I thought he said Sonny and Cher are hippies. So basically, you can be a 'tit' and rich and still be a hippie...everyone I know could fit that description. Is everyone a hippie?

 

You posters have me virtually squirming in my seat with this bizarre dialogue. What does "tit", "****", and "snot" have to do with rich hippies. You sound like "Maxi-morons." Why put down Sonny and Cher, or Jerry Garcia ? I watched Cher when I was a young teen, and she inspired me down the hippy path. I ironed my hair so I could be like her, dressed like her, and grabbed a "hairbrush-mike" so I could croon "I got you Babe" to my pseudo Sonny. Cher had a definite purpose, and helped the "alternatives" by being a hippy role model, when there weren't many out there. Jerry Garcia is still fondly remembered and memorialized in his ice cream flavor, Cherry Garcia.

I really don't see how having money could change a hippies heart, if they truly were inspired by the idealisms of the counterculture. I know there are aspects about my lifestyle choices that could never change, no matter how much money I had. I think rich and hippy can be seen side by side, and not be an oxymoron at all.
