He put out one really good album, but other than that he is a bit overrated.

A song, and a verse are not the same.

After his album, MM LP, LP2, and The Eminem Show, after he just made dumb and funny songs if you even laugh it... cause its dumb... he knew he could, and it was a sign to fans how people fall for somethin they have not read by spending money....

I have a lot of respect for Eminem. Lil wayne could get hit by a train and people will rejoice. He the black version of justin bieber

It's fucking entertainment, (for some) who ever said it was in their job description to not mislead anyone?

Did you ever give her a chance by exposing her to something better in her youth?( orchestral or jazz for instance) That can make all the difference, considering school music education programs are all but gone.

my critique is not of the individual artists, but, as terrapin was pointing out, of the corporate push behind the, if you'll forgive the expression, popularity machine.
why the corporate mob does this, and what they expect and demand to get, out of doing so.
the manufacture of a culture, that keeps its pockets open to them (meaning their corporate masters, not the actors, musicians, et al, themselves, whom they simply use, how and as long as suites them to do so.)

this is why i prefer what there is, of non-corporate media, and non-economically controlled portions of the internet, what there is left of them, where people can see and share each other's own personal imaginations and creativity, instead of some corporate faschist agenda.

Not sure I've learned anything insightful from a song since The Who said, "Meet the new boss -- same as the old boss".

That was around the same time that John Denver was singing, "...though the cities start to crumble, and the towers fall around us...". Prophecy for a modern era, on a level that was not to be seen again.

For me it should have been "so welcome... to the machine" and "I am the slime from the video"

Thanks for the effort of explaining it so well, and the examples as well. I think this is indeed for a large part why people with developed music taste can like him too. I simply think the final product, both sound wise as where it comes to the content (personally I rarely give a shit about the content if the sound appeals a lot to me btw. But I guess most of the time it is a combi of both, and I can even appreciate some lyrics or underlying message that can seem megalomaniac or obnoxious if it is made in a form it interest or pleases me. After all, to me music is just an artform. The content doesn't have to coincide with me in any way) doesn't impress or intrigue me, or pleases my ears... Sure the guy is obnoxious too but I just don't get how people enjoy his music to the extent they pay for it in these amounts. It's all about the music and I don't get the appeal (from people with developed taste, I understand the average pop radio listener). Especially if it's mainly the production (beats, samples, rhythms etc.) that gets them to like it. This is actually how I got into some hip hop. But not the kind of Kayne West and Jay Z apparently.. :p
I guess as always we look for different things that appeal to us in music, even when it is sometimes in the same music :D and not only that, but also the same aspect of it like the production and samples and beats. I like it classic 90's style above anything, you seem to dig the more progressive (and experimental?) stuff. Though personally I wouldn't describe Kayne Wests music as progressive in any way, but yeah I'm not into his music or real progressive stuff (generally) so...

So I listened to these examples a couple of times, and yes the production is not bad. But what is not good or impressive at all is the overal result/just the song as a whole. Also, his vocal/singing style is not adding anything positive (imho). I just have to say I have a hard time imagining you seriously are a fan of this stuff. I understand though we are very different listeners ;) :) It is not a lack of taste, it is a very different (yet developed) taste. Still, his musical success puzzles me a bit. I can understand the commercial aspect.

Jay-Z gave Kanye West high praise when he was starting out, so I'm sure that didn't hurt.

I find it interesting that jzee does the "hova" sign and gets his fans at shows to chant J hova. Taking this name from the true God. Blasphemy at its finest. More symbols, triangles, pyramids, jayzee, mason, satan
