Like any state, urban people tend to vote Democrat while rural people vote Republican. The rurals are conservative God-fearing folk. And there are a lot of rural areas in Colorado, especially in her district.
To the point, many states might appear to be one color but are actually another color - as is the case in New York - where the major metropolitan centers are blue while the majority of land mass appears to be red... funny thing about that. A lot of upstate NYers are complaining about this - that NYC controls who is elected as our governor. They are short-sighted to say they think we should annex from NYC. We just elected a democrat from Buffalo, a woman (yah, a woman who I think will get the job done), and of course, Buffalo is certainly an upstate city. A few years ago, the area around Albany was red. This time the area around Syracuse is purple. Syracuse just lost a moderate Republican, and it appears we have elected a more right-sided Republican, but by a very close margin. Things do shift and change. We have a mix of Congressional representatives on both sides of the aisle. We have a person (Ms Stefanik) who rose to power in the GOP after Liz Cheney was shunned. She is from the northern district of NY state. We have the current Majority Leader of the United States Senate, Chuck Schumer, from New York. Yet, when you look at this map, and you listen to some people complaining about it, we look red - yet they don't feel represented. Fact is, they are, by whomever they voted for to represent them in their area. To me, this map is made all the more dramatic by making the neighboring states solid blue... are they really? I highly doubt it. There were most likely plenty of people in Pa who voted for Oz. Are they happy today that their state flipped from a Republican Senator to a Democrat? Bet not. My hope is that some of these extreme folks can calm down and start to work together, instead of carrying the banner of divide that we've seen all too much of in these recent years.
Funny, the upstate people all said the $$ was always headed to NYC and NYC bitched that their taxes were supporting the lazy hicks in upstate.... I always mused about the price of a 5 mile bus ride vs how cheap the NYC subway was.... Again, best view is in the rear view mirror. No time soon, I'm afraid. Interesting that any place in NY with headcount is blue....
