I'm writing an essay on a soviet traitor. kind of interesting, but i would rather be doing pretty much anything else at the moment.

 

I'm so stinking proud of my doggy!
As most of you know Buddy is a big ole' brute who has "social issues" when it comes to other dogs, he likes to kill them.
I've been working with him and he has made great progress but last week he began doing something on his own that is awesome.
after him doing it three times, I think it has stuck.
What he has started to do is stop and freeze when we encounter another big dog. the first time he did it I thought it was just odd. Then he did it at the park one day.

Last night we were taking our nightly walk around the block when we turned a corner and about 20 feet away was a girl with a good sized Shepard of some type.
Buddy stopped cold and DID NOT MOVE A MUSCLE until the other dog was far enough away and I gave the command to go. The whole time the girl was struggling to get her dog from trying to get Buddy, and he stood motionless.
Just 6 months ago he would have dragged my ass down the street to get at the other dog, so him stopping and holding on his own is a HUGE advancement for him.

This damn dog keeps surprising me each day.

i am way too lazy....as lovable as he is he is a work dog....he lets me know if people are approaching[most of the time]

he hasnt been off my farm in well over a year except to run down the road to the neighbors

 

That kind of dog doesn't need a walk. Those are for house pets who don't do anything else. Mine is pretty bossy with the walks there is a certain way we have to go every time and it's long. A little over a mile each way. If I drag her by the leash she goes another way but I usualy give in and go the whole way. She still wants to do it when there is a few feet of snow on the ground too.

 

Ugh speaking of dogs, I just copped a neck, face and chest licking for my wake up.

 

Julie loves walking but gets so wound up when she sees her leash, she calms down after 100yards, shes just so happy to go out...

 

If I don't take Buddy out twice a day he gets VERY keyed up and the energy just builds until he is going bonkers.
Then he is a lot more "dangerous" around other animals and people and more likely to try to attack another dog or snap at someone.

So for me taking him on walks is mandatory, not optional.

 

My dog is wound up forever and always. Cannot and will not settle, too much drive, but then again, his sire was a working dog in Schutzhund so I am not really surprised. But if he's injured, limping... It doesn't matter. He's too young to let it bother him and he keeps going, forever and always.

Every dog of our friends that comes to visit, or we take to visit, after 10-15 minutes of play they need a rest, they want to settle. Not Atreyú. None of that shot he says, he keeps going and going until the other dogs literally hide just to get away from him, and then he annoys them too much and they get angry at him. So he tackles them and keeps going and going until they run and hide away again.

From the first step to the last step 65 minutes later on a walk, he's alert, in front of us taking control. Always interested in other dogs in a playful way, that's our fault, we over socialized as a puppy now every dog he sees he thinks it's play time and if he senses that we aren't going to let him... Whinge whinge squeal whinge and utter embarrassment. Hates bikes, I'd gotten him out of it but coming to America our handler/carer just let him do what he wanted, which was to chase bikes so now that's what he does, which really fucking pisses me off. But that's just him, he can't let things pass him by at all.

Depends but typically we'll do a rough out with the auto trimmer and then do all manicuring with scissors. Auto trimmer is set super loosely, majority is done by hand.
