I think I heard it on brave heart. "Impudent bastard!" From an Englishman after he was asked to put his head between his legs, and kiss his own arse.

I've never been a huge fan but I've always known girlfriend can sing. I read once that she veered away from piano ballads that showcased her voice and into the pop arena because she realized she wanted to perform music she herself would enjoy. Fair enough, lady gaga.

  6. Yes I do. I just think it's funny that you're using it. Like you're in a position of authority. It's really not that big of a word.

I guess you've pretty much made my argument for me. Lady Gaga's music isn't "art" it's "entertainment." And it's not even new entertainment, as you said yourself. Nothing original there.

So my point was that it's going to take a lot of work to get me to start taking Lady Gaga seriously. Care to rebut?

Lots of people can sing. It doesn't really account for much. She's still a product of the music industry, and her output can be described as cookie cutter pop music at best. There's lots of people in this world who have far more talent than Lady Gaga, yet they go largely unnoticed because they do their own thing and not what the record companies want. I will give her credit for being able to sing, but that's really as far as it goes. I am honestly not that impressed. Had it been anyone other than Lady Gaga, hardly anyone would notice or care, but because it's "Lady Gaga" it generates hype and press attention. In short, all I can really say is BFD.

Why would I? Because most of it is tacky and plastic. If it was good, I wouldn't care whether it had mass appeal or not. I honestly cannot even understand why Lady Gaga is relevant. She is known more for her image than anything else. She's just another pop culture entertainer put out there for the masses to worship. Because she displayed some singing talent the media is praising her for, I am supposed to just jump right on board and start loving her? Most of the people giving her praise probably aren't even aware of a fraction of the music that is out there, other than the garbage shoved in their faces by the television and radio. I can name at least a dozen contemporary artists off the top of my head with better singing voices than LG, yet most people are probably not even familiar with them because they're not constantly being promoted by the industry and media.

  12. Why do you care? I don't think anyone is under the illusion that this thread is about me. It's a Lady Gaga thread and I stated my opinion of Lady Gaga. What's it to you, man?

I like Lady Gaga...even her kind of odd image. I find her amusing and very talented. Even if her image is for show...who cares? That's the way the game is played. There is no burden on any one person to change the game and no shame in making as much money as you can with your image.

you have your tastes and we, in the rest of the world, have ours.......why does it bother you to the point that actually try and detract from her very obvious talent? tacky?...how can music be tacky?....lyrics maybe ....content? possibly....but there is no evidence of tacky when a young singer gets on stage to perform a song from one of the most famous [and popular] musicals of all time and does it in front of the woman who made it famous as well as hundreds of her peers.....it was, to say the least, extremely classy

I cant refute plastic because I have no clue what you meant by that

I wouldn't say she is tacky. Nicki Minaj is tacky...and writes garbage from what I can tell.

The reaction of Julie Andrews said it all. Since that emotional hug, she has said many positive things about the performance to the press, which is all over the internet.

She didn't even bother to watch that ridiculous attempt at a Sound of Music remake two years ago featuring Carrie Underwood, whose voice was completely inadequate for that style of music.

Did you see that string section on the stage? It's rare these days for anyone to have the budget to do a song like that as it should be done, with too many violins to count. :cheers2:

I'll bet Julie honestly likes Gaga, because she was also a bit of a hell raiser in her twenties, a fact that has been mostly forgotten over the years. Playboy once published a pic of Andrews flashing her chest to everyone at a private party. Quite an image change from Mary Poppins, don't you think? She had simply pulled down both dress straps on her evening gown, and was calmly carrying her drink around, chatting with people as if she was fully dressed.
