why did you ask then? before i realized that it was purely the fact that people ignore the homeless, i was going to say that it was an obvious example of the bystander effect. http://psychology.about.com/od/socialpsychology/a/bystandereffect.htm
Pacific, you are a hero to me. Too many people don't care and try to make others feel like shit who do.....so never change the beautiful soul that you are.......not enough of it in this world.
I tend to go off on subjects like this as it is...too much animal abuse in the world and things that would make you cry...animals getting beaten every day......burned, tortured, etc.......I would go to jail to protect any of them.....if it was done in front of me, I am sure.
That dog was not being tortured . And for it's yelping ? It translates as " I surrender , I surrender ." Do you hear " Help me , help me ? " Ha ! Give the bum a buck and stifle yo' pious assumptions . I am the master of a street dog . We travel in peace , through you .
I hope you are feeling ok, because these (what I feel have been very strange, uncaring) posts, especially from you have me wondering and concerned about you. The fact that a homeless man was shirtless in this type of weather indicated he could (VERY) possibly have been going through a mental/psychotic episode. The fact he was shirtless also bodes (to me) that his behavior toward the dog could - and should- definitely be called into question! Torture includes mental as well as physical torture. Granted, any physical torture at that moment may have been quite minimal. However, I simply don't believe your psychic powers go as far as to know if the dog had and is suffering emotionally or is in some way being tortured. Seriously. wth Go PacificDude. :2thumbsup:
His story offered observations as well as opinionated assumptions . His application of the word 'torture' is inflammatory and calculated . It may especially appeal to those inclined to believe a hobo's life is inappropriate for a dog , that such a life is torturous , and even more dementedly that hobos should be banished to the wilderness .
homeless people often make very good pet owners, but homeless people are also often that way because they're mentally ill which sounds like the case in this situation.
That is crapadoodle...where did he bad mouth homeless people? He saw a dog crying out in pain and responded to that......I can just see the dog whisperer "disciplining" a dog like that....and with 6 dogs here, i can lose my patience at times, too, but not like that. and homeless people....those are your words......I have the biggest heart for most of them and i am sure Pacific does, too....
I have been homeless for several years (in Chicago). And I never felt the need to take my frustrations out on an innocent animal. Where did I say that the homeless should be banished to the wilderness? WTH? In fact, I stated that after I got off the streets and began doing volunteer work at a homeless shelter, I met many really talented and cool homeless people. So your comment is totally bogus. Get a grip. Just because somebody is homeless, does not mean they should get a pass when it comes to treating people and animals in a loving way.
Good point. And that's why it took me 5 minutes to confront the dude. He was acting psychotic. Yelling at a dog (while holding its mouth shut/kneeling on it with half his body weight) for as long as he did - is not normal behavior. On a more positive note, I just got back from the store, and even though the dude was not there, I did get to meet up w/the store manager. She remembered my phone call, and told me that the store's security guard had not seen the dude since this very sad incident happened. She showed me a bunch of pictures the store keeps of patrons that have been banned from the premises. It didn't take me long to find his. Turns out he had verbally abused a cashier just a month ago. So he can no longer enter the store. So if he turns up again and is seen abusing the dog, he will be picked up by the cops. I gave the manager the number of the pet shop owner I spoke with, and asked that she please give the lady a call, instead of just letting the little dog wind up in a kill shelter. She promised she would do so. She also has my name and number. So I'll be sure and keep you posted as best I can. Again, thanks for the really cool support. It's good to know I am not the only one who gives a damn about pets
peace to that home bum and his little dog . a progressive morality that persecutes is a devil , the servant of progressive anxiety .
Well, PD couldn't in this case, but it's good advice. If you're trying to prove something legal, you need evidence. Eye witnesses can be helpful, but there's nothing like a piece of hard evidence to prove a case.
Personally, I think that anybody (homeless or otherwise) that abuses a vulnerable person/animal is a total asshole. Has nothing to do w/the devil. (Again, WTH?) But that certainly is a convenient excuse. A way to excuse your personal responsibility. So go for it. Especially if it makes you feel all enlightened and superior. NOT. I know better. Been there, and I always tried to turn the other cheek when people treated me like garbage. I still cannot believe that you support animal abuse. Whatever, dude.
