Your mistake here is that you take those things as a stereotypical good thing. If you pay attention to the details you would not say 'not too bad'. You would have killed yourself long before Al would even think about that himself. His family is horrible (arguably if it would be a real family it would partially suck this much because of his own fault), he hates his job, his mood often doesn't even get better during his fav pastime at home: watching tv with his hands in his pants.
He has a tragic life. A house in the suburbs might be the best thing he has. After all, his wife might wanna have sex with him alot the time, this feeling doesn't seem returned to the same extent She doesnt do anything in the house, partly the reason why they have such shitty children.

 

Yeah Peg Bundy is an awful wife. She is lazy and always putting Al down. But it's mostly the the house I notice. Too expensive to afford if he was really that poor. But you don't really understand "poor" income as a middle class boy. There a few episodes where Al shows he cares for Peg but mostly it's a miserable relationship where he lusts for younger women.

She also gave me some strange feelings in the pants as a young boy.

Now to be fair I had a middle class job for about 7 years. I have been a working adult for 24 years. All of the rest of those 17 years I made a few dollars over minimum. Topped out at $12. When minimum was about $8.
Give me a couple days and I can make half my house look as nice as Al's. (And that half is about the same size as Al's.) The back half of the house is an ongoing project. I will assume that Al and I make the same amount of money because he gets commission too.
I am in no way middle class. And you only need to look around my poor neighborhood to see most are doing better than I am.
The difference is I saved money. Moved back with my mom to save even more for a while. I invested and I got lucky to find a desperate house owner who needed money after Sandy hit. I guess that last part goes along with my last point. I got real lucky. Not everyone can just accidentally walk into a $35k a year job for 7 years. Most just stay stuck selling shoes or stocking vegetables.
As for Al's luck. Maybe you are forgetting his car that he couldn't afford to fix half the time. (I know that all too well) or maybe you are forgetting the part where he hints at his parents having money. That house could have been a wedding present. Or maybe he was just smart with his money and luck had nothing to do with it.
