What about artists who charge ridiculously high prices for tickets to gigs. THAT is a fucking rip-off and they are stealing from us.
Back the wtf truck up.... While there are landlords who screw tenants over, not all are. The last rental place I had was a tri-plex. In a town where a one bedroom apartment was going for 550-650 a month (some plus utilities), I was renting two bedrooms out at 550 including heat. We lived in the worst of the three, rented the other two out, fixed up the one we were in. We then swapped it to one of the other tenants, and re-did that apartment, then swapped with the other tenant and did the third... We didn't tell them they had to pay extra because of it, even though they were moving into basically brand new apartments. In NO way did I 'steal' anything from anyone... Hell, I even took weed in trade for one of the guys rent...
No, see thats where the idea of a free market definitly applies... If an artist (as opposed to a promotions company), chooses to charge ridiculously high prices, that is their choice... If they aren't worth it according to their fans, they won't make any money and lower their prices.
Anyone who owns more housing than they need and charges other people to live there is stealing. Property is theft, as they say.
People still pay high prices for alcohol, tobacco and drugs in this country, but that doesn't mean they are not a rip-off.
I thought he was crazy at first, but this sorta makes sense to me. Funny, I always thought this could be a neat way of making a living, until the world's population turned into savage cavemen.
So, instead of me investing my money and time into making homes for people and charging a rent that is in line with the actual costs of providing that home, I should have just not bought the properties that I did (which were considered trash homes with slum landlords) and let the people living in them continue to live like that? Even though when I sold them (at a price which reflected what I paid for them, and spent on them, not market value which was about 35% higher) they were considered nice, and safe homes? I really think you should step back and re-examine your statements...
When you start giving away a commensurate share of the property in return for the rent, as opposed to just letting them stay there then I can say that you are not stealing from them. My statement is a generalisation that applies to most situations where a property owner charges someone money in return for shelter. I've heard of some charity schemes whereby people can rent property for however long they want, and the money goes toward paying off the mortgage and when it is finally paid they then sell the house again and give all the people who rented their money back. THAT is how it should be. Why should I pay someone else's mortgage so that they own the place in the end, just because they have more financial clout than me? That is just wrong, however you look at it.
Renting isn't really considered to be a long-term solution for people. If you rent your entire life you're an idiot.
So instead of renting because I can't afford to pay a mortgage, I should....live on the street? And news flash, a lot of people don't want a mortgage. There's a market for renters.
"Buying a share of property" sounds like a brilliant idea, until you realize that property isn't cheap, even when divided.
Most landlords charge more than what you would pay if you have a mortgage. The only thing stopping it from happening is greed.
So much for my nice streak... You are still a fucking putz... I have always had the same offer open to anyone, whether or not they were a current tenant or not... If someone wants to work along side of me, and put as much into doing the things that need to be done as I do, I will gladly share what I own with them. You know what putz? NOBODY has ever taken me up on this offer... They would rather pay rent (either to me or someone else) and do nothing, then actually work... The only people who say stupid fucking shit like you are, are people who have never actually worked to earn something... Grow the fuck up. Not only is it not cheap, it is also a lot of work, which nobody wants to share in.
I've worked all my life, and rented all my life. Had I been given the chance to buy shares in each place I lived instead I would have taken it.
Buying a house is not a very attractive option to most people in their 20s who don't even know where their future careers/family/personal desires will eventually take them.
