Hemenway has been debunked. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/04/03/debunked-harvard-researcher-cites-sociology-experts-to-claim-more-guns-equal-more-crime/ http://defendandcarry.com/the-trace-debunked-finds-no-advantages-to-using-a-firearm-in-self-defense/
Yes, I forgot to add the national average. Here it is. http://www.cityrating.com/crime-statistics/california/ As you can see California is slightly higher than the national average when it comes to violent crimes.
I blame all the Mexicans coming over in California. Hate to say it but maybe trump was right about them. Well....that or the gangs there.
The data shows that improved gun laws are working in California...but, there are always other factors to consider. But it hasn't hurt as some would try to insist. You can't compare California to the rest of the nation without considering all the other factors involved.
Exactly, so what makes you think gun control in California is the main cause of crime rate going down when the entire nation has a decreasing crime rate?
I'm as anti-gun as you will find. But I am also very proficient with one if I wanted to. I went shooting and it's boring. Pulling the trigger once or twice just to see what it was when you see it so often in movies and what not was interesting. But once it's done I felt no need to go back. But I had a friend who was very into it. So to spend time with him we shot. I learned but I won't be putting it into practice. All your license tests I passed them. I could have done that day one though. It's all common sense. But I get the sense that is the point. Because it's a "right" the barrier for entry to gun ownership is meant to be easy. There is just way too much fear in that community and the gun is the security blanket. I am not afraid of life like that. It's not a "sport". It's the belief that the goverment is afraid of you because you have the gun so you need the gun. This is why the Ar-15 is so popular. It's silly to say its for hunting. The creator of the gun said it was not meant for that. But it's almost identical to a M-16 and can be easily modified to be a full auto gun. This is why people want it. You are basically buying the same riffle an American Marine would have. But I think gun owners can relax because there is never going to be a time in America when you will not be able to own a gun. It's just so ingrained in the culture. Sandy Hook was the last straw for me. It showed nothing matters but your own personal softy. If kids are shot then it's their fault not not having a gun themselves or at least an adult around the kids. There can be logical discussion because the gun owner's solution will ALWAYS be to fight fire with fire and anything less is an assault on their rights. The fact that this rarely if ever happens elsewhere yet those people are "free" does not matter. Nor the fact that so called "good guys with guns" have attempted to stop shooters and are often unsuccessful. Each and every gun owner keeps this action hero view of themselves thinking they will save the day. That friend I mentioned was like that. He had shot since he was 4. But when his home was broken into he missed and shot an innocent man next door not the thief. Bullet went though the wall into a 80 year old man's chest. That man died but my friend was not charged with anything since police felt it was a mistake made when attempting self-defense. All he did for years was talk about how he would be ready. In the end he was not. Lucky for him he survived the injures the thief gave him. I imagine attempting to murder someone will piss them off.
I can't for the life of me understand this damned fascination with firearms. I'm a country boy from Kentucky, so naturally I own guns: a 20 gauge shotgun for squirrel hunting (holds three shells), a .22 rifle that I used for squirrels when I was younger (and my eye sight was better), and a six-shooter I received as a gift (perfect for home defense). My parents, grandparents and great-grandparents were similarly armed. (I can understand owning a bigger rifle if you are into deer hunting, but if you really need a 30 round clip to hit a goddamned deer then you've got no business owning a gun.) None of us owned any damned AR-15s, AK-47s, Uzis, Tech-9s, etc...They would have considered it a foolish waste of money and so do I. I think that for too many people a gun is like a prosthetic penis; it makes them feel big and tough without merit. I'm not sure how this all got started but I can see the change just in my lifetime. I can hear the change too; I live in the country and am surrounded by people who seemingly do nothing more than target practice every single goddamn day. When there is a pause in the shooting I assume it means someone is grabbing another six-pack of beer. It wasn't like this when I bought my place 20 years ago. So much for the peace and quiet of country living. I miss the old fashioned common sense of my grandparents; they are gone now and good, old fashioned people are getting hard to come by. I don't mean any of this to be an argument for gun control either, I'm just venting mainly. Maybe the 2nd amendment guarantees the right of idiots to waste their money (or patriots to defend...well, whatever it is they think they're defending). If I ever got the chance to vote for gun control, however, I would be sorely tempted to vote yes. They took my peace and quiet; it would be pure pleasure to take their guns.
i kind of want a reasonable gun legislation to go through so we can all see it dosnt work...i hope that the people that prove it dosnt work are not in too much pain and make a full recovery. but either way there will be other victims.
Because the national crime rate is also going down. When Chicago allowed conceal carry they had the lowest crime rate since ever.
It's silly to say the second amendment is only about hunting. That being said people can and have hunted with an AR. All it takes is an appropriate caliber swap, barrel length, and a ten round magazine. No, it's not easy. In fact if it was easy it would be illegal to most Americans as the ATF would classify it as a title II weapon. Not if Hillery gets her way. The school was a gun free zone. And pistols make up 60% of mass shootings, not so called assault rifles. Plus to add, the shooter didn't empty his magazines before reloading. He would shoot up a room and change mags on his way to his next target. Had someone or a bunch of someones had been armed the carnage would've been a whole lot less. Please list any mass shooting that took place in a police station, gun shop, show, or range. Evidence on the last part? You realize that 90% of mass shootings happens at gun free zones. We all want to be hero. Would you rather be a coward? Or worse yet a hero without the tools to do the job and thus either dying or failing? Stories like that are few and far between.
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. There are ten and five round magazines for hunting with an AR or AK. Plus the second amendment isn't about hunting. Do you have evidence for the first sentence? And as for the recent rise in target practice I think that's due to the political realm. So you want to take someone else's right so that you can have convinence?
Yes I do. I am over being polite to inconsiderate assholes. If they had wanted to play with guns they could have joined the military and fought in the war that their imbecilic president started.
All your typical "gun free zone caused" this arguments are just silly. I can tell you are pro second amendment so like I said there is no point debating you. The facts are there but you refuse to see them. But you win you keep your gun despite my disapproval. But for you to say the story I shared is "few and far between" is the best example of the gun owners philosophy. As I said you really don't care about anyone but yourself. It's ok that man died because you need to be protected.
