Sounds nice. I love living in a city for the convenience and the short commute to work/school, but I miss living in the country as well. Growing up as a young kid with forest all around our house was an awesome experience, I'd love to be able to recreate that for my own kids (eventually).

Hmmm....Could someone drive you? Walk you literally to the door?

Umm, not really, my wife works during the day and I don't really know anyone else here that I'm comfortable talking to about my anxiety. I suppose that I could make plans to study with someone before class though, so that I have someone to go with. It's worth considering at least, thanks!

It's always easier if you aren't alone with thoughts beating off the inside of your head.

I remember driving this very old truck once it was vintage old...I didn't drive it regularly.. ...anyways whenever I shifted gears i couldn't see over the dash cuz to shift I was at the edge of the seat and extended all the way to a tippy toe practically laying down to get those pedals to the floor....lol

Smile. It works in reverse to make you happy.

Act confident and relaxed and friendly. It works in reverse to make you confident.

Obviously, this can be worthless advice, there's more to it than that - but whichever way you go, it can reinforce itself, for better or worse - so do what you can to choose better.

Work on an in-control zen state - it involves the same approach as choosing to use drugs, or not to use drugs, without an absolute approach - absolutes leave you obsessing over your absolute rule, when you could just make the right choice one step at a time. Only worrying about the step you're taking leaves you free from the responsibility or worry of all the rest of the steps you're going to take, you're not stepping those steps yet, don't worry. This obviously doesn't mean to not plan anything, but you also have to trust yourself and that you can make the right choice when it comes.

Being in control of the moment is a lot easier if you're not wasting your energy on the future, when what you do now won't even effectively control that future. Make the right choice for the future, but you don't have to look farther than that.

Lots of times when I get home from school I just leave my phone on the table by the door, on silent, for a few hours. It is nice to be disconnected for a bit.

Tell-lie-vision is bugging me.Can't really take the instantaneity of the news and the disconnect of all the tragedy.Luckily I have some DVDs so I think I will try and just use it to watch films.

i cope by keeping to myself and staying in a routine

oh wait...you asked for "good" tips....yeah dont do what i do because its obviously not helping at all

the only good advice i have is to ALWAYS act when you feel that spontaneous feeling to do something different...because the more you ignore it the easier it gets to ignore

And, doing things differently feels good.

Drive down a new street, or whatever - it's good for you - it even changes how you think about things for some time, as I understand it.

Being open to new stuff makes it easier to be open to more new stuff, and to handle stuff as it comes.

Driving isn't the best place to try to overcome anxiety for some people.

Just remember, you're invisible inside your car.

Especially when you're doing drugs or having sex.

My car's one of the safer places to me, it's a bubble/home I can take wherever I need, that I can return to as a home base whenever I need. If I feel in over my head, I go there. I feel safer when it's parked close at hand, and more in control of my own destiny.

    That's nice for you.

It's not the case for everyone and that's okay.

Well to be sure.... I don't think I ever implied that it is for everyone, I know some people have anxieties about driving and such.

But I think it's a comforting place and a bit of an anchor for a lot of us. I know others who feel the same way - it makes you your own master, and it's your escape pod, if needbe.

And I think we were just discussing social anxiety, which doesn't necessarily imply any sort of anxiety about being out and about, or driving, just about social interactions - and what you do before them, like where you go or how you get there, can have a lot to do with how prepared you are for the interaction, hence my "drive down a new street" advice. I suppose the same could be said about walking down a new street - it gets you out of the routines that you've come to associate with your anxiety, that will trigger that anxiety.
