Orison, I am not a big fan of big gobs of turkey, either.....and I do feel badly but people here expect me to cook turkey every year, so I do....I like a small sliver or two of dark meat mixed in with my mashed potatoes and stuffing....and I really like the stuffing I make that goes inside...bread, celery and Bell's turkey seasoning with water to make the consistency I want it to be so it all holds together a bit before stuffing it inside the turkey..and then that absorbs the wonderful turkey juices while cooking and is out of this world......
I do like the turkey drippings that are in the pan still, called au jus, over my mashed potatoes and stuffing.....
I cook my turkey with heavily seasoned Bell seasoning and pepper....that is what makes my turkey taste good, and I cook it so it is a bit juicy and not too dry....

and I am guilty of eating a white meat turkey or sandwich or two after Thanksgiving with miracle whip and thin sliced finalandia swiss cheese on rye bread....

but yes, guilty here.....so I so I do wind up feeling badly, too, all day for the turkey that had to die to feed us.....

If turkeys were dominate they would probably raise us as and do the same.

Except they probably would celebrate with geese, ducks, chickens, or rabbits.

The duck would be a professor in the writings of language.

    Chicken in psychology.

Rabbits part of the world wide running association.

Geese plotting to kill everyone. For next thanksgiving.

my favorite turkey-day dish is broccoli swiss mushroom quiche. yum.

with the turkeys we eat its actually a mercy to kill and eat them. most of the store turkeys are Big Breasted Whites, and they cant even mate naturally. they have been selectively bred to be massive-chested, and they grow too fast and struggle to walk. i would likely raise a couple of turkeys on my farm one day, but not that kind.

juiciest turkey ive come across is deep-fried. oh. my. my dad started doing that a few years ago. cooks MUCH faster, and seals in the juices. ::drool::

I wish I had camera phone when i had a pet turkey.. not the reason I dont like eating them. It just dont work for me as protein / its very rare I eat turkey and most the time thats in the form of a generic tv dinner.
anyways, I was walking down the railroad tracks when i spotted a baby turkey. so I put it in my hat and took it home.
stuck in a rabbit cage and fed it worms and crickets, grains and junk food . it grew out the cage and was now a house pet. It wouldnt leave the surroundings of the house when let out, but it would walk around the house and sometimes chase people. it would then come back to the sliding doors and peck if they was closed. 4yrs went along I took it out to the country and let it free/not. it followed me as much as it could as I drove away. I couldnt leave it... I stopped and took it back home. then one day it was outside in the back , 6yrs had passed by now and it took off from the yard on its own. I have a strange belief it left to die because it wasnt the same, it used to be really vocal and it would come up from the basement soon I come home, I rustle bread bag but it wasnt doing that much.., I reflect on it like I would a dog, because it was just like a dog to me.

there are some wild turkeys around here. i wish i could catch one, lol.

to each their own on their protein choices. im not judging you. i like turkey, but the sides are where its at for the thanksgiving feast. sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, spinach stuffing (so good) quiche... and so much more, and then apple, pumpkin, pudding pies, brownies, cookies, cheesecake....

    i love feast days.

Hi... Specs and Ty, glad your dad is okay. We used to get calls to take mom to the ER from falls but she'd need stitches, and you know all the CT scans, etc.
