garbage disposal can cost more money in sewage depending on the locality, as they tax the water treatment plant .. I dont have one. I used to but I took it out because people were abusing it. its not for full waste. its for scraps.

Seen this on the kids show today. thought Id post it because the headlights.. :)

i hate garbage disposals. they smell disgusting, people think you can just put everything down there, ugh. just nasty. i need to have ours taken out.

how the fuck hard is it to scrape your plate before you put it in the sink? how hard is it to use a little strainer in the sink to catch any too-big bits before they go down the drain? its completely ridiculous. you get all kinds of crap caught in the giant disposal hole, rust, rot, mold, decay, and the shit doesnt even go down half the time.

garbage disposals are nice for the little bit of food that may go down a sink...like orison said its not put all waste down only scraps and minimal scraps at that....

my sinks never stink especially with the occasional lime if anything you get a nice clean aroma when you walk past the sink

I love Pine Cleaner, probably because I've been surrounded by Pine trees my whole life.

many the times the stink its not because the disposal unit itself, its incorrect plumbing and lack of gas traps in the line. Ive a problem like that in the better bathroom. I would have to take the entire floor out and walls .. if you run the sink to much the water backs into the tub. it brings terrible gas with it too .. only thing I can do is keep the tub stopped up but Red thinks the chain and stopper are fun to pull out and play with.. stupid dog lol.

or there is food stuff in the trap from not running the water enough, for fresh water to stop the trap up. even dry drains will make stink .. even if you dont use the sinks and tubs in certain bathrooms. its always good to run the water there to get the traps closed with water. prevents the gas from coming up..

Oh my god, I love my garbage disposal - everything goes down that, it's a middle ground where it's not trash, even though it should be compost - so I don't feel quite so bad about my earth-unfriendly apartment habits.

If you have a good one, and if you keep it in use, it shouldn't get disgusting and it should take about anything you throw at it. I let pearings, peelings, scrapings, and the like accumulate as I cook, and when I do the dishes, use it to suck the water out and in so doing, lubricate it well and soup everything up, so it doesn't complain and so than no nasty crud gets stuck in there.

Before paying anyone to look at your switch, check on the disposal itself - IME they generally have a little circuit breaker or thermal overload switch, which can be reset by pressing a small button on the (bottom, generally, of the) canister.

yes i pushed the reset button and it didn't work....
then i unplugged it from the outlet under the sink and plugged it with extension cord into another outlet and it worked
when i called kenny the electrician he said was probably my switch..... yet it wasnt
the neutral wire wasn't grounded at the outlet .....(or something like that)

they just dont make the single pole switches like they used to. I couldnt remember replacing switches til the 90s. seemed like those older switches had better metal, heavier plastic. just over all better.
