Other than on a film set, I have never even seen a gun in my entire life. The same is also true of every family member including our daughter, but she has seen them during her police training, but only to help identify if they are real.

No, I didn't think much about guns back then because it was extremely rare to even hear about gun violence. That was the 50s and the society was very different then. I guess I just felt that they were one-off situations and probably wouldn't happen again.
The time I was worried most was when about 20 gang members tried to jump me in a movie theater. Thanks for asking, Eric.

Great thread! I've never been threatened with a gun. But was in a house with some friends and the owner of the place started bragging he has a gun. I left.

That's pretty hair raising. 20 gang members...sigh...! I grew up in a place where gang violence was a norm, and the last thing you wanted any part of was to run up on one of their members or even stare at them the wrong way. My dad told me that if I ever joined a gang he would literally kill me, because he was sure that it was bound to happen. That helped me stay on the straight and narrow, and I thank him for that (in my heart and in my mind) everyday.

She was not attractive, at all. That's why I was trying to ignore her, and almost got stabbed.

I THOUGHT it was a bad joke when they rose out of their seats down in front of me and started up the aisle toward me. They had to squeeze into the aisle to get at me and since my uncle was a heavyweight boxer in his youth and had taught me a few "things", I eluded the punches that came at me and knocked a few into the seats behind them. The usher was a gang member in a white gang and when he heard the disturbance, he came down the aisle and disappointed me greatly----He said--"Knock it off---get him AFTER the show!" Since it is well nigh impossible for one guy to hold his own on the street against 20 or so guys with bad intent-----and they stationed 3 of their guys on all 3 exits---I just ran at one of them took a swing at him and hustled my ass across the park to the cop shop. Only time I ever asked cops for help and they gave me a ride ,home. None of them said shit to me at school when there were only 2 or 3 of them.

We were all chilling with weed and alcohol. I guess the topic came up and I saw the moment approaching he was gonna show it. Not shoot it or anything, but I became terrible uncomfortable because I and everyone else there was under the influence, and most guys found it very interesting. He was bragging because he thought it made him cool I guess. If nobody agreed with that it might have remained chill for me too. But apparently most other guys there agreed with him. It was an illegal gun.

She actually sounds like my first GF. She was a wannabe chola who would basically bully me in school as her "cover" while being nice to me behind closed doors.

You ,know, thinking back on the "old days", of my youth, my friend and I did things that would put us in Juvie now. We used to walk or ride our bikes through town carrying our 22s to go shoot rabbits---nobody ever said anything about us 10 year olds walking around armed. Population about 3000. Made a firecracker gun out of pipe that would shoot an arrow a block. Cops took that one , but laughed about it. Oh--the days of innocence.

When I was19 or 20, a bullet came through my bedroom wall and lodged in the closet wall. It was at an apartment complex. I never found out where it came from.

LOL, smart move on asking for more money, that should have been automatic based on a working in a high risk area. Did your boss have any idea what he was subjecting you to?

Holy shit! That was a kick ass story! You're lucky to be alive, man. And that was smart to breach through a few of those nugs just to get the fuck outta there. Your need for survival was on you. It wouldn't have been a pretty sight to see what twenty dudes would have done to you. "Get em after the show"? I would have come back later for that shithead.
