Omniscient beings have no need of tests. Similarly, indignation requires surprise. And there is nothing rightious about creating people specifically in such a way that they would do something, and then feigning indignation at their behavior. Doesn't sound like a god to me, but a high school girl. If god is omniscient (and thus, worthy of the title "god", and the associated worship) he is a filthy petty cheating liar and manipulator. He's the very pattern of a domestic abuser, setting arbitrary penalties and becoming dispreportionately heated over things that should have never been off limits, and that anyone with the IQ of a wasp could predict would happen - much less an omniscient being. Free will doesn't mean a whole fuck of a lot when not only did he design people (and thus, design them so that they'd use free will in particular ways - ways that he could see at the time he created them - so he created them for the sole purpose of punishing them - sick fuck), but he also determined arbitrary ways that they could not use that free will - without incurring his eternal wrath. So either you act with no free will EVER, or you briefly act with a tiny bit of free will and are punished forevermore, while of course, having no free will forevermore, either. If god was on TV, he'd be flipping out about benghazi, despite having voted to not increase embassy protection spending. Now if you stop being more fucking primitive than the people who wrote the stories in the first place, you might realize that it's an elegant analogy or parable for the responsibilities and lack of certain kinds of freedom that our species incurred by learning of and practicing agriculture. Because it's a fucking bedtime story for people living in a semi-civilized fashion, with the knowledge that people had been, in some ways, more free when they simply lived in a happy go lucky gathering manner, than when they settled down and had to work ahead of time, with the knowledge of how short life is and that all they could ever do was work to give their children a better, more bountiful future, that they might eventually earn redemption in the form of great success and mechanization, for dabbling with agriculture. Now, we have earned that success - and you throw away your brief "heaven" and shit on the suffering of all who have come and toiled before (and for) you, as you try to please an explanation from a primitive creation myth. If there was a god with any of the qualities you ascribe him, you would make him weep.
Eve said, when she gave birth to Cain "I have gotten a son". Therefore, gana most likely means to acquire. Cain is also a pun on canah which means to purchase. So he symbolizes debt and credit. Buying and selling. It's also interesting that Cannanite means merchant. Cannan is the land of Commerce. When Eve gave birth to Seth she said "God has given me another son" So he symbolizes grace.
So god tells Adam and Eve they'll die if they eat the fruit. He also tells them it is the tree of knowledge of good and evil. When they eat the fruit they don't die but know good and evil. Then god kicks their asses out of the garden so they can't get their hands on the fruit that gives eternal life. And these - allegedly - are his words: “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” So what this boils down to is this: god lies to Adam and Eve. He doesn't want them to know the difference between good and evil. He is a manipulating vengeful old man who has lost control over his creation about a couple of weeks into the experiment. And then he reveals that there is actually more than one of him. Wait, what??? People it's 2014. Wake the fuck up.
cool never noticed that before, knowledge + live forever = GOD maybe immortality is the secret to gods or god like enteties. maybe there are aliens who have technology to be immortal or live for incredibly long periods of time.... so long that they learn how to create universes, wow i just blew my mind lol!
Oxygen (65%) Carbon (18%) Hydrogen (10%) Nitrogen (3%) Calcium (1.5%) Phosphorus (1.0%) Potassium (0.35%) Sulfur (0.25%) Sodium (0.15%) Magnesium (0.05%) Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum, Fluorine, Chlorine, Iodine, Manganese, Cobalt, Iron (0.70%) Lithium, Strontium, Aluminum, Silicon, Lead, Vanadium, Arsenic, Bromine (trace amounts) All elements found in the crust of the earth and is the makeup of every human being
Just a quick “what if” that intruded upon my mind: What if we do, in fact, live forever? And what if, somewhere along the line, for whatever reason, we came to believe that we do not. And what if, by believing thusly, we created the illusion of the reality of disease, aging, and expiring bodies? And what if the spirit, in an attempt to solve this perception problem, found it necessary to inject concepts such as Heaven, reincarnation, and alternate timelines into the mind in order to maintain some semblance of the truth of the matter, which is that we are forever?
ham 20% cheese 15% lettuce 15% tomato15% mayo 5% mustard 5% bread 25% all the elements found in my sandwich
wouldn't it suck if your part of any other religion and you get to heaven and its like a waiting room where god will come in and go: "And the winners of the religion lottery are (drum roll)......... Christians!!!!!!!!! Come on down, you made the right choice and will now get to hang out with me in heaven!!!!! Sorry jews, muslims, hindus and buddhist, your going home with the consolation prize of burning in hell for eternity, so if you'll just turn around and take the elevator back down.........."
Tautology which ISIS is not following for it's religious belief that human Law is better than God's law for the way the fragile Earth, per being God's creation, is tolerated.
Monkey Boy, your arguments seem contingent on particular translations of words with multiple meanings, and reading great meaning into the metaphor presented with one particular iteration of translation. As neodude said, as soon as you select a slightly different translation, your argument falls apart, and there is no metaphor. We can reword the bible into even more flowery language for even more lush metaphors to tease apart, that doesn't mean what we are reading is true.
A key to a kingdom of a particular line of perception. Where an argument does not fall apart is in consistency of premise. Monkeyboy's is an insightful rendering that doesn't violate any loving sentiment.
The true reading remains true even under the light of now. The tree of life is here now and will never not be. The tree of knowledge is to be used, but not eaten (believed) and is located in golgatha.
