Dude read the Bible for yourself. The tree is not what you think.

So, during this test of obedience which God had set up for the purpose of finding out what he didn't know, he was somehow not aware of the voice of the ventriloquist even though Adam and Eve were?

So, Adam and Eve were expected to not fall prey to the tactics of the same powerful angel that eluded even God's eye?

Genesis 3:6,7

Consequently, the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was something desirable to the eyes, yes, the tree was pleasing to look at. So she began taking of its fruit and eating it. Afterward, she also gave some to her husband when he was with her, and he began eating it.Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked. So they sewed fig leaves together and made loin coverings for themselves

So, smart guy. Tell me what the tree is? According to these verses it is a fruit tree

First, God never said not to touch the fruit. That was Eve's lie to the Serpent.

Second, it was much more than a piece of fruit. The knowledge the Bible is speaking of is revealed in Genesis 4:1.

"And the man knew Eve his wife, and she conceiveth and beareth Cain"

So the fruit was the knowledge that enabled the conception and bearing of Cain.

It's also interesting to note that in the Bible the first son is always the one God hates and the second is the one he loves. The first is born in the natural way the second is born of promise and grace. The Bible is so much deeper and more powerful than people think.

Really?

Genesis 2:16,17

God also gave this command to the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction.+ 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad, you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will certainly die.”+

ok if i am following you correctly, you are saying that the bible is figuratively describing certain mysteries. like god didnt litterally make the universe, god didnt litterally create humans, and god litterally didnt exist. but those stories are great and have a powerful message behind them.

also, i agree it is kinda silly getting too technical about these things because then you do miss the point of these stories, but i think its even sillier to have things like a "creation museum" like in kentuky. and its even sillier to teach these stories to children in school and call it science.

first of all i dont doubt at all that christians can answer a few questions they do that all the time. the purpose of my post was for them the try to answer the question logically.

this was actually my own mistake because i didnt metion that the second part is actually the most important part:

"please tell us how you arrived at your conclusions."

what Lorna Doom has just done is repeated christianity's favorite trick: assume your statements are true with no logical evidence to support them. this technique is about as old as the bible itself. but im going to give you the benefit of the doubt, im going to assume you didnt know the rules of a proper arguement and give you a chance to redeem yourself by adding a little bit of logic to your statements.

i could easily disect all the fallacies in your statement but i dont want to bore the hell out of the readers here so lets just choose one:

question4: why would god not want his creations to know good and bad?
answer4: Cause he created humans out of the dirt and bad was not a makeup of their personality or instinct that was given in their creation.

in this "answer" (which by the way didnt even address the reason why god would not want his creation to know good or bad, which is um, the main topic) you are assuming:

1) a human can be created out of dirt
2) when you make a human out of dirt there is no bad in his/her makeup

any reasonable person can see that this "answer" just creates more and more questions. also, i have to point out that if adam was made out of dirt, and he had no bad in his makeup, wouldnt it be reasonable to also assume that obedience was also not part of his make up??
by the way, how do you know which personally traits were part of their dirt make up and which parts where left out?

following the logic that "good and bad" was not part of mans origional make up, "obedience" should also follow that same standard because how would they know obedience to god was good or bad.

i was gonna end my post but, ehhh what the hell im in a good mood.

1. A test of obedience

uhhhh, why? what is the perpose for the creater of the galaxy that can do anything beyond imagination to test humans with some fruit??

2. God chooses foreknowledge selectively and does not need or want to know everything in advance thus inhibiting free will

wow, thats something incredibly specific to know about the creator of the universe. you seem to know his specific properties and what
he wants to know. WOW. how do you know that?

5. Because they were given a direct order with a consequence, and just as god said, they died as a result of their disobedience.

how did they know following orders was good? how did they know not following orders was bad? if they didnt know, they couldve thought that the consequence was actually a good thing!!

also, what kind of crazy ass value system is this: do what i say cuz im god. dont worry about the consequences. oh and dont qeustion me either, as a matter of fact just dont think logically in general. now go be naked and populate the earth with just you two, and your daughters of course..... ill watch from up here lol!!!!!!

also, why would they not follow satan, if they didnt know he was bad?

my final quesiton to you is: if you just take anything the bible says without considering it skeptically and thinking about it critically, what do you do when salesemen or mormons come to your door? my advice: stay away from car show rooms!!!!

god: will my creations do what i say with no explanation?? if they do ill just let them stay in this garden forever, but if they dont they will be punished for all eternety mhuahahaha!!! whats the purpose for this little experiment? dont matter cuz nobodys askin!!!!!

Analyze the questions in reference to the analysis of myth. When you do this mystifying contradictions or the revelation of missing principles make many questions moot or beside the point because the elements of the questions are being literally construed.

For example why would god put something there that wasn't good to eat?

The world is given us to do as we will.

God's statement in the story was a statement of probability,
We know that physical emergence is a play of probabilities, (code gods creation,) and given enough time life emerged and given enough time life could conceive not being. In this conception we surely die, or become become dispirited over time., In the same field of probability and at the same moment exists the correction for this detour into fear. It is not a dead end mistake from the beginning in a field of probability, even so as we cultivate fear we do so at our own peril but we can change our minds and go and sin no more.

It's mental conception. Cain means purchase. It was the beginning of the concept of debt and credit.

what? thats it? thats all you have to say after i mercilessly destroyed your argument?? that wasnt even origional, you litterally used my own joke against me. that joke doesnt even make sense, because the joke was suggesting that you would accept anything anyone tells you with no proof and i would not.

wow, if your logic had diarrhea and it took a splatter shit, it would be your last post. yea thats what i think about showroom. can i get an AMEN!

When people go on these tenuous biblical tangents my eyes kind of glaze over.
I was just observing that you seemed to be making philosophical significance out of the choice of a particular verb. The translation could alternatively read "And the man fucked Eve his wife" and then poof your link to conception as an effect of knowledge is gone.
As for debt and credit, lolidunno. If you are saying the story of Genesis is the origin of that concept, then I'm just gonna back away slowly.

But it didn't say fucked.

Debt and sin are used interchangeably in the Bible. "Forgive us our debts".

It said "knew", & fucked is what that often means in the Bible. The Bible talks a lot about uncovering feet, too, and that was a common eupehmism for the same thing. And Cain in Hebrew in the context of Genesis 4 probably means create or beget, from the root verb qana. Eve says "I have gotten a man-child," after giving birth to Cain (Genesis 4:1). The noun qyn can mean shaft, spear, stalk, or reed. The verb qana can also mean acquire, possess, or redeem (of slaves). None of htese seems to fit the meaning "debt". http://www.abarim-publications.com/Meaning/Cain.html#.VBMv6mM2Tg9
