Lyndsey, I know what you mean about the "stigma" of taking anti-depressants. And I know a lot of people who have grown to not need their medication anymore, whether it be because they found alternative therapies or because their depression, etc. didn't affect them anymore.

Taking medication definitely doesn't make you weak. It made me stronger, if anything. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage and strength to admit that you need help, whether it be from therapy or from medication. If you're not comfortable with the meds, there are plenty of alternative ways of dealing with depression.

I wish you the best of luck with all this. It sucks ass, I know. Hopefully you'll get out of this rut soon and running will help you.

I hate that people, even close friends can be so judegemental and tell me that I'm 'normal' and that life isn't about being happy all the time. It upsets me, but I am not going to worry about it because they are not the ones who have to live my life.

I've tried therapy, herbals, lots of exercise, tanning beds...and every other type of anti-anxiety medication. Celexa is the only thing that works for me. I just gotta deal. I woke up feeling great.

I know. Those people have a bullshit attitude. Would they tell a diabetic "I don't need injected insulin to make my body work. Why do you? Wimp."

You can't HELP IT that your neurochemistry is differeent than some other people. It is no different than any other condition. You can't talk yourself out of depression than you can talk yourself out of a broken back.

If you NEED the meds to survive, they do NOT make you weak. They let you function. Take if from a 16 year Zoloft veteran. You need your neurotransmitters to work so YOU can function. If it helps you live, so be it.

Blessings, sister. Do what you need to do to be OK.

    Thank you :)

My mom takes zoloft for SADs, my uncle has schizophrenia,my grandma...we're not sure but something's up with her and my dad is a diagnosed sociopath, which affected me a great deal...if I got away with a little depression and anxiety I think I am lucky.
    I like your insulin analogy.

    :) I'm glad I could help you.

Honey, if you need the meds, take them. You know they aren't "happy pills" they just get us to normal. There is no reason to deal with endogenous misery, if it's our chemicals that we have no control over. An other side effect/co-morbidity with depression is Chronic Pain. Beleive me, you don't want to get into that spiral. I don't know what came first in me, the depression or the pain, but they are basically inextricable. The meds help both.

Love and peace and, if you need it, better living through chemistry. :chill:

chemically-based depression really is that: your uptake sensors for the feel good chemicals we naturally produce either are too few in number of inefficient. no weakness there, unless some jerk would think glasses make someone a weaker person, and who cares what that sort thinks anyway?
(sez someone who has worn glasses for 37 years)

also going off a med is the lowest point, so if you decide to try living pill free again, make sure you have support, nutritionally, socially and with a talking counselor.
it all comes down to what you can and cannot live with.

I totally pulled the baby powder trick this morning before heading off to yoga early in the morning.

I can kind of relate lynsey. I've been in a "all I want to wear are sweatshirts, hoodies and yoga/atheltic pants and my hair whiped back in a ponytail" mode. Forget the dressing up, doing my hair, looking all sharp. My hair is constantly static-y at the moment, and I'm just feeling kind of blah. Not a whole lot of motivation to get all cutesied up. Then again, I tend to get this way in the colder months.

I'm glad you are feelinb better Lynsey. I, too, admit to the babypowder trick. And, (OMG, I can't beleive I'm admitting to this) when the crushing weight of living is too painful to even get yourself into water that morning, some Gold Bond Body powder helps you feel better, until you can make it into the water the next day. :(

Sometimes things just suck. The weather has been awful, I feel like we haven't seen the sun in days, (except for the few days when it was below zero) and Soltice is approaching, so the days are getting shorter and shorter.

It's gonna get better, honey, it will.

whenever the santa anas would kick up, i'd go slob, too. all that freaking wind really fucks with your head and literally chaps your ass. it's hard to get into dolling yourself up or even making the most basic efforts when you know that your hair is going to be a rat's nest at the end of the day and your makeup will be floating on top of skin that's simultaneously chapped and oily. ugh. horrible stuff.
