I'm willing to bet that the overwhelming majority of the people involved in creating and then using the atomic bombs were not only religious but *Christians (simply by virtue of the fact that most of the research took place in the USA and most people here have been Christians since the country was founded). I would add to this that pretty much everyone on the allied high command was a Christian, as well as the crews that loaded the bombs, the men that flew the plane, and the bombadier who released the payload (Not that I am making the absurd claim that religion had anything to do with it, it is just clear to me that athiesm had nothing to do with it either). Secondly the people who are chomping at the bit to use nuclear weapons today are mostly religious as well. In this case mostly believers in Islam (though there are Jews and Christians who salivate at the thought of the end of time as well). They can't wait to bring on the end of the world. As for atheists like myself we like being alive, because we tend to think that this life is all we get.

*Barring of course that notable example Einstein, who religious or not was clearly not a Christian.

Or as a wag put it, a philosopher is like a blind man in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there. A theologian finds it!

why do so many people have such a hard time to figure out, that there is nothing in this universe to require a god, gods, or godlike beings, to have anything to do, with islam, christianity, or any other brand name flavour of belief, nor with evil, nor even to either exist or not exist, nor to be infallible, nor to have the slightest desire to be worshiped, nor to be hierarchical, nor to be at war with anything, nor to have walked the face of this earth, nor to resemble in appearance any creature on it, nor to have a physical form at all. phew. or even, that humans invented bull shitting, thousands of years, before we invented writing? and that noting ever written, has anything to do, with it or their 'will'?

a god or gods, goddesses or what have you, are every bit just exactly, as likely to resemble whatever YOU choose to imagine them to be, as what anyone else, in any book, however many thousands of years ago, may also have.
do you even think, or imagine in your mind, that everyone who identifies themselves with any brand name flavor of belief, has in their own mind even, the same idea, of what their god is, or is about?

what makes you think islamists did not ignore and deny baha'u'llah, in the same way and for the same reasons the that christians deny mohammid and jews denied christ? but what makes you think any of these have anything to do with you god? and if christ or mohammid were chosen by god, or a god, to channel it, what makes you thing moses, abraham, noah, along with buddah, krshna, lao tzu, zoroaster, quatzicotl, weren't all exactly the same thing?

you don't KNOW that. all you know, is you've read some book, written by other HUMANS, or several, or more likely heard someone claim to have read one, and to tell you what THEY think it means.
maybe god or gods are real, and its religious beliefs that haven't the slightest idea what they're talking about. its possible. its absolutely possible.

maybe you've actually read a bible or a koran or some other scripture of some other religion, and fallen in love with some of the ideas in it. there's nothing wrong with that. but it doesn't mean everyone ELSE is WRONG.

or maybe you've just fallen in love with one of the central figures of one of the beliefs, and don't even care about anything they actually tried to teach. that's called a PERSONALITY CULT.

that is what christianity becomes when it claims not to be a religion, neither more nor less, nor better nor worse then any other religion.

well worse actually. christianity AND islam. but i don't really need to get into that, do i?

A lot of people WANT to believe what they're reading, because they don't like the alternatives. When you're not into the dominant religion of your area, social group, or family, those people can often make your life quite miserable.

Just imagine the OP being your boss or family member. If he was aware that your belief system didn't precisely match his, he would surely make every day of your life a living hell.

and that's why, i never entirely trust humans, and fail to see the logic in doing so.
psychologists say were not supposed to, or used to anyway. i have no idea what they say now, but this is why i find living by myself worth everything it costs living without in order to do so.
that's why i find the whole 'family' thing, so utterly over rated.
its not like i hate any of those things, its just more like, thanks but no thanks.

(and i don't have to imagine, every boss i've ever had, well most of them anyway, there was this religious politics situation. one thing, i was actually lucky with family, my father was a non-practicing humanist episcopalion who hated how his father had brought him up, and my mom was a non-practicing jew, who'se childhood memories about religion were about the food and celebrating the holydays. instead of sending me to any church, there were a bible in the house and walden and something about buddhism, and i read all of them like they were regular books, and coming to my own conclusions, and then i went to different churches when i was eleven, on my own, out of curiousity. well unlike most fanatics, who don't read their own books, because they only want to use them for excuses, i actually did read them.)

I consider my family to be my husband and my friends, who wouldn't be a part of my life if their fundamental views and values were incompatible with my own.

That's so unprofessional. My business professors taught me that it's unacceptable and unwise to fuck with employees as long as they're doing their jobs and not causing trouble.

    Atheism is a Religion.

Atheism is a shared common belief among its followers that there is no Deity and/or Deities. Many try to argue in a roundabout fashion that it's simply a lack of a belief in these things, just to escape any sense of belief being tied in to them. But Atheism is the belief, based on lack of evidence, in no existence of a God.

If it simply came down to not having the evidence, an Agnostic just concludes that he doesn't know. Atheism, on the other hand, is an assertion on the matter.

This isn't its own form of Missionary work?

One has just as little evidence of no God as they do of the existence of God, and an Atheist, most likely due to "Occam's Razor", is choosing one over the other, and that's that there is no God.

Science is the Doctrine and the Scientific Method is the Scripture of Atheism.

Fortunately, I'm not associated with a religion. Just pointing out how Atheism is its own religion. This billboard is acting like only Atheists are able to think for themselves. Incorrect.

You know, the thing that the OP has been complaining about in this thread, the "Government is Official Religion" thread, and the Kim Davis/Pope thread he made is that the Kleins bakery was charged $135K for discriminating against a same sex couple.

I wonder if he is related or on their team of lawyers.

Oh then you probably believe like the OP, that gay is a religion, and government is a religion. How about gravity, is that a religious belief?
