I'm well aware of the Stoned Ape Theory, I've read Food of the Gods and watched many discussions given by Mckenna. I was responding to a post regarding alchemy though, which I don't recall him mentioning much in FOTG.

what do those last letter mean. Mckenna thinks that the new age nvolves the alchemical transformation on a planetary scale.

But yes...alchemical transformation = new age...the planet itself becomes the new vessel...the new Prima Materia to work with in order to transform.

FOTG = Food of the Gods. I have this book but have yet to read it all the way through. Really need to. I also own the Invisible Landscape by him and still really want to purchase The Archaic Revival

I haven't listened to McKenna very much since my psychedelic days but suddenly I've stumbled across all these alchemical, magical, hermetic talks by him that are really good that I've never seen before.

 

The only thing I had known of mckenna prior to this thread was a tape that my wife had about thirty minutes long and I read the book true halucinations. The rest of this is new to me also.

 

The thing about growth in the domaine of the mind is that a single thought can replace thousands of years of trial and error. The thought that redeems us as alchemists is that the pholosophers stone has been discovered and it is called forgiveness.

 

It was an acronym for Food o f t he G ods.

Terrence Mckenna was a huge influence on me when I encountered psychedelic culture. I still adore listening to his talks to this day.

It's important to participate with his work critically however, just like with any thinker. For example, when he says "science is a minor art; it is only in the domain of what is physically possible". Well, I would scoff a little at that and say "only?" ? Without the physical there is none of this, so that's a bit strange to say. I think it would be more accurate to say "science is the art of what is physically possible" (said with great respect). That's the difference I'm trying to communicate.

Don't forget Terrence has a PhD and was well on up in the "Orthodoxy" of science, if you must use such a term. So he's having his cake and eating it too a little bit. Without his scientific explorations into fungi and cultures none of these talks would exist.

Yes? I pointed out that his music, and our listening of it, is impossible without science. I didn't say his music isn't art because it's recorded. Science and art are not mutually exclusive domains.

Does any spiritual path explain consciousness or what happens when you die? Does astrology or Magick? Remember that science is not claiming to be able to explain these things, so don't feel the need to "debunk" something that isn't happening and doesn't exist.

And again, these are the most profound questions of all time. This line of thinking makes as much sense as saying "Yeah, this coffee maker is great, but I mean it doesn't even solve the problem of mortality or anything, so I'm just not sure if it has any value"

 

I think yes terences phd gave him the liscense that the academics insist must be there in order to be taken seriously but also but also might be the reason he didnt get to answer all the questions he had forhimself in light of having to con.form to established practices. The reasons for this are reputed to be the necessity of making money. I am immune to that presure because I make my living on good will and do not need to protect a cash flow or a life style. I am a free agent and I have no one to answdr to save the people I talk to.

 

As to forgiveness being the philosphers stone, the stones properties turn what is base and of little value into what is precious to ourselves in the alchemical sense.

 

Has anyone spoken to NoxiousGas? He is not speaking to me. In case any one is interested.
