To mr.writer, Respectfully, to your statement that your position, "I don't know, show me the money," represents a state of open minded appreciation is simply not true by comparison. What you are saying is I know enough not to believe you based on anecdote. I would suggest if you know something there is no measure of convincing that makes it so .No belief to overcome or maintain. It is the congruence of statement and comparative observation that becomes true distinction. Many legitimate apprehensions about the nature of the world are state specific. For example, you can have no appreciation of the sexual being without it's attending state of arousal. Experience then is the proof.
Why do you need a symbol or object on which to project your will? Why not just project your will onto the problem at hand? Right, and the thing that I know enough about is that anecdotes need to be taken with a grain of salt and that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. A stance of "show me the evidence and I will believe you" is not a closed-minded stance, but I'm open to hearing an argument about how it is.
The symbol or Sigil is a means to lodge what it represents into your subconscious, thus increasing the Synchronicities that lead to the desired result. How this happens on a quantum level is where Science could step in. The Ceremony and Sigil are used for emotional transmutation. You create the feelings and visualisations of the desired result, and so when you go back out into the world, you are matching your vibration more powerfully with that which you wish to see manifest.
What are Synchronicities? Why do I have to lodge a symbol into my subconscious to get them? What does putting a symbol into my subconscious have to do with getting a non-related result? The talisman seems to be a middleman here? Could I not just focus on my goal? Why do I need a "third party" sigil to symbolize my goal and then focus on that sigil? Where does this technique come from? Who discovered it? What methods did they employ to test its efficacy? What data has been compiled showing that attributing something to a sigil and then focusing on that sigil will make that attributed something come about in the real world? What are the parameters surrounding ceremonies and sigils? Goals? Can I will Brazil to sink under the ocean? Can I will you to stop believing in Magick? How?
Mr. Writer what constitutes extraordinary claims? Extraordinary on a communal basis is something beyond your experience. There is no extra real. Your argument is weak on many levels. I will give you an example. Considering the amount of ignorant superstition that is still posited in the developing minds of children, I decided to put the wisdom of the day to a test. The wisdom: if you stare into the sun it will damage your eyes. A statement similar to don't go out without a coat or you will catch cold. Well we now know colds are caused by viruses not the lack of coats. I looked into the sun at about a 5;00 pm orientation. At first the light was bright white and uncomfortable but I stayed with it and soon a cool disc began to superimpose itself over the bright disc of the sun. As soon as this happened the sun turned a brilliant but cool ultra violet with the suns corona at that point remaining bright white. There seemed to be some issue about getting the focal length and center just right as light seemed to be escaping around the edges of the disc, but when perfectly aligned, the disc disappeared and the corona became a shimmering radiant ultra violet that covered approximately thirty degrees in diameter compared to the entire visible scene. I spent some five minutes observing this phenomena. I turned my head to the left and down and as I did so I noticed that the ambient terrain seemed dimly and indirectly lit. When my gaze reached the ground down and to my left there was the color spring green and the color field had texture. I repeated this movement several times with out a break in the reverie. One of the most remarkable experiences of my life. By the way it was a sober view.
From my interpretation it's a state of self hypnosis. Some people use mantras and I suppose you could put a reminder on your phone, but that's probably not as effective since during the process of focusing attention on such a thing either through meditation or whatever, you're rewiring your neurology so those patterns of thought are more likely to surface in conscious attention. Having a talisman serves as just another trigger. Not to reduce these things to the mundanity of daytime television, they're they're potent methods of guiding oneself through a maelstrom of potential distractions.
Look it up if you don't know what it means. It's the fuel of Magick. It's not non-related, it's directly related. Thus the term Synchronicity. You could. You could also just swim across a lake rather than being on a boat. The Egyptians were the first ones. Unfortunately, much of this information has been lost with the burning of Alexandria Library.
From this thread so far I've learned that it's a great idea to stare at the sun (enjoy your solar retinopathy), that being open to evidence for a statement actually means you're closed minded because you've already decided that statement needs evidence, that there's no difference between different kinds of claims (ie "the sky is appears blue" vs "I can levitate china") and there's no difference in what kind of evidence to expect, and that self-hypnosis is the manifestation of quantum non-locality of consciousness (divined by an astrologer no less! Deepak Chopra is tingling with Synchronicity) Thank you so much hipforums, for showing me how I have been wasting my time here. Dope: "Damage to the eyes from sun exposure can take two forms: short-term damage and long-term damage. Short-term damage ("solar retinopathy") occurs when a person stares directly at the sun, and is a result of too much ultraviolet light flooding the retina. In extreme cases this can cause blindness, but is so painfull that it is rare for someone to be able to stare at the sun for that long. Typically, eye damage from staring at the sun results in blurred vision, dark or yellow spots, pain in bright light or loss of vision in the center of the eye (the fovea). Permanent damage to the retina has been shown to occur in ~100 seconds, but the exact time before damage occurs will vary with the intensity of the sun on a particular day (clouds and haze can weaken the sun's rays) and with how much the viewer's pupil is dilated (decongestants and other drugs will dilate pupils). Obviously, no one has done a study to measure the exact time before damage or blindness occurs, but doctors collect information after events like the 1999 solar eclipse, when people who stared directly at the sun for several minutes went to see their doctor. In one study, about half had permanent damage. Short-term damage can be easily prevented: never look directly at the sun. During sunsets, when the intensity of ultraviolet light is lower due to scattering, avoid looking directly at the sun for more than a few minutes at a time. Sunglasses and camera filters do not prevent short-term damage, and may make it more likely by dilating your pupil and/or allowing you to stare at the sun longer without pain. Long-term damage is also caused by the effects of ultraviolet light, and can result in cataracts (cloudy spots on the eye lens), corneal sunburn and growths on the surface of the eye. This type of damage can be the result of a lifetime of sun exposure, and the effects usually don't show up until people are in their 50's or later. Long-term damage is harder to prevent, especially in people who spend a lot of time outside. The best prevention is to wear sunglasses that block UV light (both UVA and UVB)."
If the apprehensions require the specific state to be legitimate, how is commenting it whilst not in the state a form of legitimate apprehension?
Don't know 'bout god, but I shot some pool with jesus in Sana Cruz one time. He was pretty good. Got a deal on my lawn too.
Indeed GB. Lot's of people shooting their mouths off pontificating negatively or positively about things they have not experienced as though some doctrine of probability that prohibits surprise or discovery.
I for one am sincerely enjoying this convo on the last 2 pages! I don't have much to add at the moment either but I guess that's because others have been 'speaking my mind'
Do YOU know the relevence of synchronicity? Synchronicities may SEEM relevant to one person but to everyone else they just dont see it. There's nothing objective about it whatsoever, and certainly nothing "magical" ... no such thing as magic.
Yup and once again this becomes the whole argument about anything subjective isn't worthwhile of being considered important. I simply disagree and always will. Of course they're only going to be relevant to the person they are happening to. Has nothing to do with whether they are meaningful or not just because the same synchronicity isn't happening to all people at once.
"In other words, quantum mechanics dictates that the world we see is just one of an infinite number of possibilities. But why? Tegmark doesn’t have an answer, but his ideas demonstrate that there might be a more dynamic relationship between consciousness and other states of matter—that our ability to perceive the world is both a means to an end and also an end (an “object”) in itself." http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/next/physics/physicists-say-consciousness-might-be-a-state-of-matter/ http://arxiv.org/abs/1401.1219 One step closer to Scientifically verifying that the entire Universe is composed of self-aware Consciousness, aka known as the Aether or Ether in olden times. But even if Universal Consciousness is not equivalent but more subtle than Aether, the Aether would be means of manipulating the physical world with your Consciousness (Universal Consciousness, Spirit, and Aether are all quite similar in definition). This would be the equivalent to 'Perceptronium', which is just more Scientific sounding. This is also one step closer to verifying that the Universe is One, and one step closer to verifying Magick when it says "that there might be a more dynamic relationship between consciousness and other states of matter".
