Well I was playing a game of pickup basketball earlier today when I suddenly felt compelled to own the white guy I was guarding, so I slam-dunked the ball on him at every opportunity.

I think you make a good point. My experience comes mostly from Chicago...a little bit from Nashville (but really...I had no problems there) and then from Iowa where I get along just fine. But some of these issues seem almost inherent. I hate to say it but we were just talking about this at work today and I said that it was fucked up that people get judged differently but at the same time...I have to admit that when I look out of my window and see a black person walking down my street....I do wonder what they are doing in my neighborhood. I don't even mean to be like that but it kind of makes me pay attention and wonder. I know that's maybe fucked up but I can at least acknowledge my own thoughts. I grew up around lots of different people and I don't like my first thought being what it is sometimes. But I think it's just what your used to seeing. I also lived in black neighborhoods as a kid and I was damn near the only white boy there and if I looked outside and saw a white guy strolling down the street...I probably would have wondered the same thing. But I think that sense of judgement can also be true based on things other than race. I lived in mixed racial parts of the city and we could kind of tell if you weren't from the neighborhood...regardless of your race. So I think there are many strange ways that we humans segregate ourselves....for better or for worse.

Just walking around downtown, Nashville seems much safer than Memphis.

I wonder what Saint Louis natives would say about Ferguson, and how it differs from all the other St. Louis suburbs. I'm sure there's a story about how it got to be the way it is. Whatever the roots of their community problems might be, it seems unlikely that outsiders are going to solve anything.

Even though race relations and police relations nationally are not great, the Ferguson story is still mostly a local story, no matter how much the media would like to convince you otherwise.

You have to play the hand you are dealt. Years ago, Charlotte had to close down their largest shopping mall due to violent crime, and it wasn't black Americans at fault, but immigrants from several different countries who had gathered in that neighborhood. If you asked an Asheville city policeman who causes most of the trouble downtown, I'm sure he would say it's young white hippies. Raleigh has a few black gangsta personalities downtown, but they all hang out within a block of the bus station. They don't usually bother anybody outside of their turf. But... if one homeless black dude on crack or meth sees a group of ten white people in downtown Greensboro, there's a good chance he will walk up to them and try to start something. I've seen it happen too many times.

The thing for me is that a lot of us wish that things are different but in a lot of cases....they simply aren't. I'm not making excuses for anyone but I've lived in a few different elements and I don't think much has changed. I really don't. I don't think I can do a damn thing to change anything because of a lot of other factors besides just race. There are major inequalities in society that have little to do with race on the business end and have everything to do with profit. The problem is not race, it's profit. Until we address this issue of profit, we will never find a solution to the racially based issues.

Stupidity and shame on every side and from every angle. Stupid kid steals cigars and taunts police. Fucking pig shoots and kills unarmed kid AND LEAVES HIM LAYING THERE FOR HOURS!!! Where is the humanity! What is wrong with people!

Fucking pig gets off the hook with NO CHARGES! Yes we should be outraged but fucking morons burning cars and businesses of innocent bystanders.

There should be PEACEFUL protests everywhere, in every city until this cop is brought to justice! Emphasis on PEACEFUL!

Cannabliss - what the fuck are you talking about "leaves him laying there for hours"? That makes you sound ignorant and like you've been getting your news from the same idiots who are doing the rioting.

For the record, Michael Brown was around 300 lbs and 6 ft. 4 inches tall (about the size of a large NFL linebacker), and he had just finished holding up a liquor store before his thug ass was shot dead. Stop making him out to be some innocent young child, because that he was not. He charged the cop, and was therefore shot by that cop in self-defense. Good for him. And I virtually NEVER defend the police -- this is just common sense, the evidence speaks for itself. Michael Brown was the aggressor and it cost him his life. End of story.

Ok well none of us know exactly what went down unless we were there. I don't claim anyone to be innocent and maybe I need to do more research but that's what I read. Doesn't matter how big he was he should have been at least shot in the foot or leg first as a warning but of course I wasn't there so I can only base my reaction from the most reliable sources I've been able to find. What source do you get your info from out of curiosity?

I got my info from the evidence that was presented, and eyewitness accounts of Brown charging Wilson. I also saw the surveillance video of Brown holding up the liquor store just prior to his altercation with the officer who shot him, which to me proves beyond all reasonable doubt that he was not "just minding his own business" and "was a good boy" as his mother claimed. Michael Brown was a thug, and he died like one in front of the barrel of a gun. However, it does not make his death, or anyone else who dies in a similar fashion, any less tragic.

That aside, my main focus on this incident is how the media has exploited it and deliberately created racial tension when it has nothing to do with race. People like to take sides when it comes to this shit, which just feeds into the polarity the system wants to keep us divided instead of uniting against the scumbags in power.

As much of animals as the people doing the rioting and looting are, we must understand they have been egged on and provocateured to do just what they're doing, courtesy of the turncoat media and treasonous slime balls like Obama and Eric Holder. People like Obama love this shit because it's a useful distraction from the treason and lawless, unconstitutional actions he commits on a daily basis.

Enlighten us. What do you know about the situation that the rest of us you refer to don't?

Sorry, but if rioting and setting your own town ablaze is not animalistic behavior, then I don't know what is.

Normal, civilized people don't look like this

Normal, civilized people don't destroy property of innocent people.
So, yes, they are acting like animals.
I suppose they are nothing more than hooligans and crminals who just need a whatever excuse to vandalize.

America, what happened to you?

Just a few observations:

Cops have guns for a reason.

If a 300 pound man gets your gun, you are in deep doo doo.

Adrenaline can affect you in many ways:
I am not surprised he pulled the trigger multiple times. How would you like to try and stop a 300 pound man? If 300 pounds lands on top of you, you will not be getting up until that 300 pounds removes itself.

Jus saying......

Not exactly sure what you're saying here. In terms of racial equality, American business has been a step or two ahead of society in general. Hiring the most qualified person for a job, regardless of race, maximizes profit. Also, customers of all colors are wanted, as long as their money is green.

Missouri state laws govern how much force the police officers can use there, so what is the purpose of having protest marches in other states? It's not a federal matter. Nobody in the other 49 states has the power to change anything there.

Forgive me for being vague. You're right in what you're saying. What I was moving towards is how businesses make decisions like where a new plant or factory will be or which community will be invested in. I was thinking about how the money just doesn't flow into some areas because it doesn't make sense on a business level to invest there. If the place is a shithole...whether it's a black neighborhood or not.....nobody is in a hurry to throw money at it or hire people there (unless neighborhood gentrification happens)

I'd say your cops do need those personal camera thingys.

Would have given a different perspective if there was a video of the incident

I agree that the cops should have those personal cameras, since the general public is pretty much under surveillance wherever they go these days.

I am not so sure a video of the incident would have given a different perspective other than what the officer said took place. Not that police don't lie, because they often do, but I don't believe the officer is lying in this instance. I believe he was attacked and truly feared for his life, and what he did by shooting Brown was in response to him feeling that his life was in danger -- simple as that.

But instead we have idiots running around screaming racism, which is totally absurd. Black and white people alike make themselves look like total idiots when they run with this shit.

Basically, I will come right out at this point and say that if you think this incident has anything whatsoever to do with race (other than the response from the protesters), you're a fucking stooge. (Not any one person in this thread in particular, but people in general.)

I also think the cops should have body cameras but some already do and they have a habit of malfunctioning when the shit goes down.

Yeah, that's a tough one. As a business owner, I'm not investing one cent in a high crime area.

I'm pretty sure there is a zero percent chance that the president is going to go to jail for anything.
