Do some research and you will find that ozone is an allotrope of oxygen. Instead of being in molecules of two atoms like the normal O2 we breath, ozone is in molecules of three atoms, hence the formula O3. It is formed when UV rays from sunlight hits O2 and the oxygen atoms get rearranged into ozone molecules. Ozone is actually a noxious gas. You can smell it when grinding/ cutting steel with an angle grinder or when welding. It has a strong musty smell. Ozone is an unstable gas that easily converts back into O2 . There is a simple reason there are holes in the ozone layer during winter, lack of sunlight. Making alarmist statements about a natural phenomenon is wrong. Abraham Lincoln once said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool everyone all of the time."
You mean I made a typo? Thank-you. I like being corrected especially for typos and grammatical errors.
I love DuPont paints and what not. Lays down a sweet paint job and they have their shit straight. There is a plant close to me that pays well and has no waste problems unlike the others around. There is also a Monsanto close too, Other than the bacon smell every once and awhile who gives a shit. Both places passed with great results. When I paint, I put off more CFC's into the air than most large companies do in a month. Im not paying for a 10k down draft filter element booth, A box fan(s) and furnace filters work just fine. Its the leftover chemicals that are what people lax on. I make sure I have no over spray or its a minimum, Filters etc. The name brand shops have to have the high dollar booths so they put off next to nothing with the down draft and 4 big filter elements and two rolls of element filter. If you choose to dump the run off or left overs or paint in a barn, That is what causes problems. If I was to dump my waste, Its a problem for the guy down the stream/river. Same thing goes for the guy above me, If he chooses to dump, He not only fucks me, He damages the environment and its blatantly obvious. The days of 'night dumping' are over and most if not all people who use products such as these recycle the leftovers. A lot easier and you don't have to worry about the mess.
1 chlorine molecule can break down over 100,000 ozone molecules.. to put that into some wacky perspective.. 12oz's of CFC has the ability to destroy a pocket of Ozone the size of the Superdome and then some.. Actually its the lack of electricity /lightning ... The sunlight is the same machinism all year round, but thunder storms in the northern hemisphere are not.
Yes. it occurs naturally but just as humans have contributed to global warming by introducing higher levels of co2, we also contribute to ozone depletion with cfc's. I don't have the energy to debate this right now. Hoping someone will pick up the slack for me.
I'm aware of the chemical nature and smell of ozone, and I'm also aware of the loose definition of "noxious". Just like the rest of fucking up the climate, just because it's naturally created and destroyed does not mean that putting a bunch of stuff up there that constantly eats it up is okay or won't have consequences. "well things naturally change" is not an excuse for changing things in ways that are clearly harmful - or even might be - there is one earth, and we need it, and need it functioning properly, and it's in a very delicate balance.
Roo I’ve commented on this before and have also suggested that Indie might be such a person, I’ve often said that many right wingers that post here seem to be working from the same crib sheet – because many seem to cite the same sources and post the same quote and give the same replies [more likely non-replies] when challenged. I keep asking the question why some here post ideas and statements they clearly cannot defend from criticism in any rational way – and concluded that it means they are either deeply irrational or being paid to post stuff they know is propaganda which they are likely not even to believe – as an advertiser you don’t have to believe in the product you are trying to sell. But there is also the John Birch Society path it urged its followers to bombard newspapers and officials with letters urging ‘anti-communist’ policies so while their number were actually small the coverage was large. These were fanatics whose arguments were often irrational or even farcical [with conspiracy theory elements] but it help promote the anti-communism of 1950’s-60’s America with all the damage those policies created. But be they either bought and paid for shrills or unthinking ideologues, the shit spray over the media and internet is the same. I mean it is obvious to anyone that looks to see that the majority of deniers are being backed by interested wealth. Only when this becomes obvious to everyone but the unquestioning acolytes will things change.
Ok so those 100,000 ozone molocules convert to 150,000 o2 molecules? What is to stop the sun shining on these o2 molecules and truning them back into ozone? How about bleach? Does the everyday use of bleach have any affect on the ozone layer?
Nothing, but that ozone is also removed from circulation early by CFC's, as long as they're there, there will not be as much ozone, and the amount less will be related to the amount of CFCs up there. And, no.
no, because bleach dissolves in water, the rain can wash it out . . the major ozone-depleting elements are human-produced halocarbons --such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and carbon tetrachloride. Dry Cleaning fluid will sink to the bottom of a glass of water. < another reason this bad for ground water, when it evaporates it They do not dissolve in water, do not react with snow or other natural surfaces, and are not broken down chemically in the lower atmosphere. These substances containing chlorine do reach the stratosphere.. UV/ and lightning ...both are quick enough to build ozone as they are to destroy it. UV combined with chemicals breaks down ozone, lightning does the same. lightning produces ground level ozone, and so does pollution and UV.. They must be balanced. like yin and yang. The suns electromagnetic storms can also strip away the ozone. But the culprit behind global warming, is deforestation, fossil fuel abuse..
There is the truth we are told and there is the truth we choose to believe. What intrigues me about the whole climate change debate is the so called deniers are the very people who most enthusiastically endorse nuclear power and the people who most the climate change campaign are the ones who are dead against nuclear power, when the agenda of the climate change campaign is to persuade people of the virtues of nuclear power. The exception would be Martin Durkin with his Global Warming Swindle TV doco. I have a different tactic. What about a TV advertising campaign showing screen footage from WW2 of servicemen with a voice over of many of these men laid down their lives and many others seriously wounded so you today can enjoy your civil liberties. Then footage of a nuclear submarine with a voice over saying so too nuclear submarines protect your civil liberties. Then footage of a nuclear power plant, with a voice over saying that the nuclear power plant does the nuclear reprocessing to power the nuclear powered submarine. Therefore nuclear power plants protect your civil liberties
Why don’t we have another Manhattan Project, this time a world wide effort with ‘war time’ levels of financial support aimed at cracking the problems around getting energy from nuclear fusion? http://www.ccfe.ac.uk/introduction.aspx
No disrespect intended mate, but I would not take George Monbiot too seriously. He writes like a 14 year old. He makes an art form out of tugging at the heart strings of left leaning liiberals. In the link below is a transcript of a debate between him and Ian Plimer. It does not look to me like Moonbat won the debate. http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2009/s2772906.htm The Green Left Weekly is what it says it is and here is something with intersting foolow up comments. Whether you agree or disagree with the writer, he is certainly a more polished writer than Moonbat. https://www.greenleft.org.au/node/47141
