Around the early to mid 70s, our commune moved to Oregon in a little spot called ash valley, out side of Eugene. It was an old logging camp, with two or three 'houses' and several small cabins on it.

There were a lot of transients going back and forth from the city to the country. There were some that were perma residents and worked the land and raised livestock. Of course the same 'rules' applied as did in the city, if you ate, you worked, you took turns with the chores and you respected each other and their privacy.

When the Valley was sold out from under everyone that had worked it for yrs, they settled in and around Eugene. The OCF blossomed out of the hippies, a lot of them from our commune. Here's some pics of this yrs event

We are well thanks for the inquiry.

Now PLEASE anyone here who may not know me and those who do......do not take any offence to a correction to a post above. I do so only for accuracy and a tiny bit of History. AV (Ash Valley) is really over 150 miles from Eugene. Ash Creek which gives Ash Valley its name is in Southern Orygun and Eugene is sorta in the mid/upper mid west of the State. Spud actually owned a "Cabin" there in AV. The Rodgers Family ownes a large portion of "the valley". They are old timers and back in the Day "Louie" was the Rodgers who lived on the Rodgers family land and it is a large ranch (for up in the mountains) even to this day. I was there last week seeing one of the children of the fellow who bought Spuds place. I know Spud, I know the man who bought Spuds place from Spud (as I let this man his wife and kids stay in my bus at the whril pools on the South Umpqua when they first arrived to Orygun from back east. The owner of the Cabin today is the Son of the man who arrived from back east and bought the place from Spud. BUT he bought it from the people who owned it after his father. This fine young man is now the owner of the original site where Spud once lived. It was wonderfuf to see him as he was also with us many times as a young child. He and Sheila cryed when they saw each other after many years.

I actually lived on the South Umpqua for years after the SF days, and AV was how I found the area, and I found the area due to folks from SF GE saying to go there....I wanted to let all know that it is some distance form Eugene!

Many of us did settle in the South Umpqua drainage. I owned over 80 acres in the drainage area and birthed (well Sheila actually did the birthing I just did the catching) 2 of my three sons there.

A tree planting Co-op was started there back in the Day which Mouseman, and others from GE were instramental in formation. Its name was "Homegrown Reforestation". Our headquaters was Milo Orygun. Sheila designed our logo. We had many members at one time. We became part of the Hodads who were a LARGE STATE wide treeplanting organazation based out of Eugene. That was the reason for many to head to Eugene as the Hodad meetings were held there.

The Original OCF was the Rennisance Fair for a short time then became the OCF. It has been held in Veneta Oregon (I spell it ORYGUN as that is the proper pronunciation for the State). Since its inception. Veneta is located appx 12 miles west of Eugene. Hodad crews including ours were part of Security Crews for the Fair back in the early days as well as involved with other operations as they developed and grew over the years. MANY of the same folks work the fair every year. Some are in fact now considerd "ELDARS" of the Fair family which is very large today! There is an OCF Newsletter that is printed at times througout the year. Some possiable MANY of the folks who lived at times on upper/lower cole, oak street, page street, GE/STP and other SF folks did in fact land in Orygun.

The Fair is a HUGE EVENT these days and continues to attract many from "Back in the day" and many newcomers to experiance the event from all over the world now.

This years fair was as always a fine time for myself as I did in fact see many of the folks from past. I did see and commune with many brothers and sisters from the past.

Every time I go to the OCF I am invigorated to keep on trucking and so I do.

    Peace and love to ALL

    HI Tillerwah,

Great to see you, brother. Good to have you back. Ranger had posted two pictures of you guys at MM's place, from FB. You, Zev, Darrel, and all. Looked too cool.

I just had colon surgery, at the time of the fair. Wished I could have made it there to be with you. Hopefully next year.

How's Sheila, and the kids? How's your health. We always worry about you and pray for you. Always.

    Love you, Kenny

    That's real bad news.

As our brother Jesus has taught us:
Our DAD, who art in Heaven, Please hear and feel us. May we come together for a moment, for another. May we each feel Love in our hearts and healing prays in our thoughts and part our lips in a breath and ask, "Please".

May GOD feel us each in his heart and pause to consider. We thank you. May GOD's will be done.
May ALL LOVE Surround you, and the pure Light within you, Guide your way Home.

    ----

Ranger had also just P.M.ed to me that another friend had died.
So, in this prayer I am thinking of both people, here.

    Kenny

Thank you all for your support, they took her in last night for some radiation treatment, they are going to start it today, and are going to do a biopsy...What exactly is a biopsy?

I did not know the Hobbit, but I'm sure he was a righteous dude, and a kind and gentle soul who brought happiness to all he knew
What is the Haight-Ashbury Switchboard? I am not sure if there are still any Hippies who live in that neighborhood, as it has been sort of taken over by the city, and looks very materialistic to me... 330 thousand dollars for a 400 square foot apartment? Just curious how much did you guys pay originally when it was a commune of mostly farm land and desert land?
