That under the Mosaic Law these were crimes that carried the death penalty.

Laws for the Jewish peoples at the time. I understand most Orthodox Jews still follow the laws in Leviticus, but the majority of Christians believe these laws have been superseded by Jesus' death on the Cross.

Just because you have trouble knowing what a simile is doesn't that everyone does or that the the whole Bible should be looked at as a simile.

As for other monotheism from the area, which ones did you have in mind?

Required? The simile is a common literary device, so why wouldn't it be used in the Bible?

Does the bible propose that women are not the equels of man?

Genesis 3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

Isaiah 3:12
As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them.

1 Corinthians 11:3
But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 14:34-36
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Colossians 3:18
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

1 Timothy 2:11-15
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing.

1 Peter 3:1
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands.

As much as I dissagree with you I do feel a small amount of respect in your answer simply because you don't attempt to disguise the bibles meaning's through appologies or taking every other word of it out of context.

I guess that counts for something.

Christ proposes that he is equal to the least of us.

Perhaps the true question when considering the bibles literal verses non literal interpretations is the people who would originally reed it's passages. or in many more circumstances have it read to them, as being that great deal of illiteracy that was abundant in those times.

what would they think when they heard the size of been compared to large tree's that only god was able to methodical drive there bloodline to extinction.

Surely in there mind if god felt it necessary to destroy them himself it would at least hint at something more to the tremendous size that the bible relates to there former size.

Also further in the bible in claims that one of the elast kings slept in a bed that was 9 cubics in lengh, but more importantly why is it that god felt the need to murder these peoples for being taller than the acerage sized human, surely god if he wanted to could solve whatever dissagreements the cultures had in a non violent way.

In other words it just seems like classic xenophobia to those who are diffrenent.

Why is war and genocide so commonly used as a way to solve problems in the bible, would not god be the ultimate peace maker if he so choose yet he constantly resorts to large scale violence and missery to supposedly solve his problems with his creations.

Read from a modern perspective, no it seems the Bible does not promote equality between the sexes. It was common place in this day and age for women to have been submissive to man.

An interesting point to make though, is Jesus himself never saw any woman as beneath him, or made stereotypes of women. He also showed women as models of faith to his listeners. In the culture of the day, women were neither to be seen nor heard since they were considered "corrupting influences to be shunned and disdained."
In addition was the manner in which he reacted around women such as the woman at the well of Samaria (John 4:-42). This encounter would have been highly unconventional at the time because he openly discussed theology with a woman, and did not avoid her even knowing her marital record of having had five former husbands and now living with a man who was not her husband.
A man in this age (especially a Rabbi) would not talk to a woman in public, even their own wives, which shocked even the apostles:

That's one example. There are tons of example I could give to show how Jesus reacted around women.

My point is that even though much of the Bible's writings reflect the sexist culture of the time, Jesus himself, who is after all a pinnacle of Christianity, did not share these beliefs, and if his example was emulated by his contemporaries it does shine the way forward for woman's equality. :)

Perhaps but not among God's people. God has never wanted his people to be illiterate and in fact they needed to be literate so they could read the Bible. In fact parts of the Bible were written by shepherds and those "lowly in station", so even these ones in the nation of Israel were literate.

It is not, you just like to think of it that way, because you think it makes your point. But you spend so much energy trying to come up with what you think are insults to God that you fail to see God' true purposes. It's just too bad. :(

Just to add to what honeyfugle has said, in any business, people are assigned jobs to do and if those jobs aren't done or if people try to do the jobs of others rather than their own, that business will fail. Right now I work as a driver and one of my overseers is a woman, what if I said I'm equal to you and so I'm going to quit driving and do your job. Does that even make sense? Just because I'm a driver and not the overseer does not mean that I'm a lesser person, it just means I was assigned a different job to do.

Likewise God has assigned jobs for us to do, so why not just do them?

Also it is interesting to note that among the 144,000 that are going to heaven to be Priests and Kings with Jesus are women, so just because women seem to have a "lesser" role here on earth, does not mean the God overlooked them when choosing ones to be Priests and Kings in Heaven.

"Isaiah 3:12

While I read Isaiah, it seems to be foreshadowing an event that will end up humbling humanity. So it isn't exactly what Rudenoodle might be thinking.

In my intrpritation it's just another way of saying a womens place in in the kitchen tinding the children, and not as a joint effort with there husbands.

I thought this was a place to ask bible questions, where do you get off proclaiming I'm insulting your god?

I find it ironic how often those of faith seem to be put on guard when asked simple questions of there own bible, perhaps that in itself says something about the limits of there own faith.

I guess, but after a while the Bible seems to paint a portrait of God's intentions. Personally, I believe at least one person should stay home and take care of home affairs and one should take care of providing for them. It's been this way for centuries and it seems to work very well in keeping a stable home, just as long as everyone does what is needed. I don't see it as crippling to an individuals life or importance.

I wouldn't mind being a stay at home dad if it called for it. Today people are more worried about their career's then creating a good environment for their children. If both work from 9-5 and the children are watched over by strangers or someone else then it could create a less enriching environment. After both working from 9-5 both will be tired and less attention will be given.

Before my sister's fiancee died and left behind a wife and baby, my sister felt so happy to be a house wife and she often exclaimed how fulfilled she felt. But later on she developed the attitude that both parents should work and that being a house wife was somehow a lazy and degrading role. I think she began to feel this way only after society told her that her lifestyle was deleterious and not 'modern', but modern isn't necessarily better simply for the sake of modernity.

To me this is a demeaning remark, you make it sound like cooking for your family and raising children is some how a punishment, some how of less value than going out and working at an outside job.

The truth is there is not a more important job than raising children.
