Various Bible texts indicate that God has a “book,” or “scroll,” listing faithful persons who are in line to receive everlasting life. (Psalm 69:28; Malachi 3:16; Philippians 4:3; Revelation 3:5; Revelation 20:15)

"Does the eating of the loaves of presentation by David and his men indicate that God’s law can be broken with impunity under difficult circumstances?"

I like that one and I often thought about it. Is this what Jesus meant by the law of the prophets? That breaking God's law is allowed under certain situations?

Question:
What did Jesus do “to prepare a place” in heaven for his followers?

According to Leviticus 24:5-9, the loaves of presentation that were replaced on each Sabbath were reserved for the priests to eat. The principle behind this use was that the loaves were holy and were to serve as food for the men engaged in God’s service—the priests. Giving them to a common laborer or eating them just for pleasure would definitely be wrong. However, the priest Ahimelech did nothing sinful when he shared the showbread with David and his men.

David appeared to be on a special assignment from King Saul. David and his men were hungry. Ahimelech determined that they were ceremonially clean. While their eating of the loaves of presentation was technically unlawful, it was in harmony with the basic designated use of the showbread. This consideration permitted Ahimelech to make an exception to the rule. Jesus Christ himself used this incident to illustrate the impropriety of the unduly rigid application of the Sabbath law demanded by the Pharisaic interpretation of it.—Matthew 12:1-8.

The foregoing, however, does not mean that God’s law can be violated when circumstances become difficult. For example, a seemingly critical situation developed when Israelite warriors were fighting the Philistines. King Saul had said: “Cursed is the man that eats bread before the evening and until I have taken vengeance upon my enemies!” The Bible says: “On that day they kept striking down the Philistines.” The soldiers were battle-weary and hungry, ‘and the people began slaughtering animals on the earth and fell to eating along with the blood.’ (1 Samuel 14:24, 31-33) They sinned against God by violating his law on blood. Their actions were not in accord with the only God-designated use of blood, namely “to make atonement” for sins. (Leviticus 17:10-12; Genesis 9:3, 4) Mercifully, God accepted special sacrifices in behalf of those who had sinned.—1 Samuel 14:34, 35.

Yes, God expects us to obey his laws under all circumstances. “This is what the love of God means,” says the apostle John, “that we observe his commandments.”—1 John 5:3.

Not sure if this has been asked already. However, OWB, how do you reconcile the differences between the OT god and the NT god? One is vengeful, wrathful, and jealous, while the other follows more in line with the teaching of Jesus.

OK OWB I have a question. In John 21:8 what is meant by the outer garment Peter had taken off? Was Peter really fishing naked? Was he having an out of body experience? Paul mentions that he had them. Was the outer garment meant to represent the imperishable garment that Paul also talked about?

*crosses fingers hoping this is a mature question*:D

Here's the quote. I've been wondering about this for awhile.

7Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

To me God does not have a one dimensional personality.

We were talking before about the phrase "I am that I am", a better translation would "I shall prove to be what I shall prove to be" basically indicating that God can be whatever is needed to help his people and accomplish his purposes.

One must realize that Godly wrath, jealousy and vengeance is different from humans showing those same traits, seeing as God knows what he is doing in away that is not possible for mankind, those traits are used by him in a perfect way and are tempered with love, mercy and justice.

In the "OT" God was preparing a people to be ready for the coming Christ. Those people needed to be cleaned up and protected from the nations around them.

The Christ would come from those people and thus would be easier to identify, than just some one from the general population of the Earth.

Once the Christ came, the law that was a tutor leading to the Christ, was done away with and now Christians are to live by principles and not by law, although Christians do have a few commandments given to them to follow.

Now people have all the information they need to serve God and make their decision to do so and to prepare them for what comes next. The Bible points out that God has not changed and in the near future God will cleanse the Earth of those ruining it and will turn it into a paradise for those who wish to live there. When God does so, I would imagine that some will feel God has reverted to the "OT" God.

I meant to reply to this, but my reply disappeared or something.

I tend to hold to the idea that specific verses from Scripture can have a multitude of meanings. I hold fast that this verse does indeed point to the Real Presence, but if that is not what Paul intended, it doesn't disprove the Real Presence either.

I also read something about the conditions to come to receive the Blessed Sacrament. The person wrote that Paul is speaking of those in the community who come to the celebration not respecting the other members (in the sense that they themselves are making themselves to be out of the community through unconfessed sin et cetera). In this way they do not "discern the body [church] of the Lord".

just think of all the images we have granted to God in an attempt to reveal what he is like:

Father
Judge
Mother Hen
Bride and Groom
Love

When we say something like "God is Love", we describe God in human terms. We mean "God is like our human conception of Love". Yes, our human love (as we Christians surely believe) comes from god, but his love is more than that.

We cannot fully say what God is, only what God is like. We are too limited by language.

Does the bible mention Islam over taking Christianity in the near future as the worlds prominent religion?

Does the bible say it will eventually be forgotten?

People who hold fast to Biblical Prophecy say that authentic Christianity (read: conservative evangelical protestant) will be persecuted in the End Times by a one word religion and one world government (often they claim at the behest of the Catholic Church). they view the Church reaching out in dialogue as a sign of evil intentions.

Does the Bible mention anything about Islam? Seeing as Islam was founded in the AD 600's, not it does not.

Thanks for the kudos-es

I have to admit my priest/lectuerer Fr David Bittner CSB must of came up with this one. He also had a beautiful sermon on the nature of prophecy and living a Christian life. I am going to start another thread about it because it was wonderful.

EDIT: Father Bitter actually got it from our textbook Theology for TEachers by Ian Knox

Been there done that.

Yes that is true but I tend to think of them as levels of meaning.
I hold fast that this verse does indeed point to the Real Presence, but if that is not what Paul intended, it doesn't disprove the Real Presence either.
I knew you would and I know it doesn't. That is why I tried to stick with a meaning that we both could agree on without it being totaly wrong.

urch] of the Lord".
I too read something like this when researching this but stuck with the meaning of disrespecting Christ's sacrifice.

The Bible says that Christianity will never be the world's prominent religion. The whole world is in the hands of Satan and so the worship of Satan in one form or another will be the world's prominent religion until this system of things is done away with.
No.
