Are religion and science truly against one another?

It would seem one would demand proof and when proven incorrect adapts and changes to fit with the new discoveries, this would be science.

On the other hand the other claims that proof is not what one should be looking for and instead says it is faith that will guide you through the dark, this would be a large swath of religions.

Out of these two which has created more physical comfort in your life?

What is more important in our modern life?

I'd enjoy reading various peoples opinions on this.

Yeah, I'm sure they must be very hard on you, seeing as how you keep provoking them. Poor guy...

BTW, I noticed you conveniently sidestepped the rest of my post(s), are we gonna get any kind of answer to those questions, or do those not count now because you've been "personally attacked"?

There has been an appropriate fusion of science and spirituality lately, and a lot of members are products of this mindset.
I don't think it has to be strictly one or the other.

    Oh, now it's my fault.

Please remind me what it was that "provoked" you into attacking me personally and basically calling be a liar. Was It telling you to "look it up for yourself"?

That must have been really hard on you, for you to still be continuing these attacks on me.

Didn't call you a liar, I said you couldn't back up your claims, which is a pretty standard-fare response when someone refuses to provide evidence for what they are saying.
Either way, I'm not going to let you pull me down into the mud any further.
If you want to respond to the points I raised in my post that you conveniently ignored, I'll be around.
If not, I don't even want to have the conversation you are trying to drag on.

It seems like you would benefit from purchasing the textbook of Transpersonal psychology.

    http://www.amazon.com/Textbook-Tran...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247546111&sr=8-1

I have a copy and I find it interesting and informative.

What would you say has influenced your life more, science or religion?

I'd appreciate a brief explanation of your opinion to your answer of this.

    Thx! :D

Well, that's kind of a difficult question, and one that I can't answer unless a distinct difference between religion and spirituality is recognized.
During the 14 of my life so far, it was all about religion. I was carted off to church every wednesday and sunday, but internally, I was suffering a lot because of this. I was tormented by a lot of what Christianity taught, but at the same time, I was afraid to question it or defy it, because it was all I had ever known and what had been taught to me ever since birth.
It's a very hard shell to break out of, but eventually I did. I did become more scientific, but where most people seem to completely turn their back on anything metaphysical, I simultaneously become interested in both science and spirituality. I think this is in large part due to my drug experiementation throughout my latter teen years.
But to answer in one word, spirituality has most influenced me.

    I beg your pardon?

    Pull you into the Mud?

I said one thing, "look it up for your self", and since then every post directed toward me by you has been insulting and that even after I showed you the information.

The interesting thing is you made this statement:
and I've yet to see that you've provided any proof for it or that matter I can't remember you ever providing an outside source to back up anything you've ever said. Makes one wonder why my not immediately providing you a source, proved so upsetting to you that you would call it; pulling you "down into the mud" and would set off such a tirade of insults on your part?

I provide sources when people ask for them.
    Simple, isn't it?

What language did Adam and Eve speak?

were they able to communicate with one another?

Although the Bible does not say, it is generally assumed what they spoke was Hebrew.

Yes, originally God communicated the command not to eat of the fruit of the tree to Adam and Adam communicated that to Eve.

First, let's clear some things up.
    About what the Bible says:
Death at any age is caused by sin.
Being holy has nothing to do with how long someone lives.
Being perfect will allow someone to live forever.

    Now about the discussion:
This discussion started as a discussion of why incest was at one time allowed but then was outlawed.
I stated the reason appears to be that shortly after Adam and Eve sinned mankind was closer to perfection and as generations past mankind got farther from that perfection and were more susceptible to genetic problems, so at that time mankind was given the incest law.
When asked to prove it, I said one indicator might be that when closer to perfection people lived to nearly a 1000 years old and as generations past the upper limit of age shortened to were it is now, about a 100 years.
I was then asked to explain why more people are living longer now than before.
To which I said yes more people are living longer but the upper limit of about a 100 years has not changed and although more people are living closer to 100 years old, it has been reported that people 2-3000 years ago were living to 100 years old so that upper limit of age does not appear to have changed.

    Now these questions:
Again it depends on what is meant by living longer, there still seems to be an upper limit to how long one person can live of about 100 years even though more people are living closer to that limit.
Counter-intuitive? I'm not sure how, A person who is perfect could live forever, being closer to perfection people lived almost 1000 years and as mankind got farther from perfection the upper limit dropped to about 100 years, where it has stayed for about 2-3000 years.
Yes, more people are living longer but they still die and they die because of sin. As for why it appears people are living longer, mostly because fewer children are dying at young ages, mostly because of better medical treatment.
They all die, and no matter how long they live, they all die because of sin.
Interestingly all the life expectancies you quote fall short of a 100 years.

Anyway what is being discussed is apples and oranges, what I'm talking about is that for mankind for the last 2-3000 years there seems to be an upper limit to how long one person can live that is about 100 years old.
What you are talking about is that more people are living longer, which I have agreed with but as I've pointed out that does not mean that there are now people living to 150 or 200 years old, it means mostly that less children are dying.

If death is caused by sin, and eternal life is caused by perfection, then wouldn't a holy person have a longer life than an unholy person?

Yes they all die but I was looking for an explanation as to why there is a disparity between the average life expectancy of women vs. men in regards to death being caused by sin.

Yes, they do, but the point was that if there is an age cap on humanity, then the race with the higher life expectancy should be seeing a smaller increase in the growth of life expectancy, and that is not the case.

The reason I think it is relevant is because as life expectancy continues to increase, in the future it seems like it will be entirely possible for people to make it to 200 years or older.

Please note what the Bible says about life spans:
    Name.........Genesis.....Length of Life
    Adam............5:5...........930
    Seth.............5:8...........912
    Enosh............5:11.........905
    Kenan............5:14.........910
    Mahalalel........5:17.........895
    Jared.............5:20.........962
    Enoch............5:23.........365
    Methuselah.....5:27.........969
    Lamech..........5:31.........777
    Noah.............9:29.........950
    Shem............11:10, 11...600
    Arpachshad....11:12, 13...438
    Shelah...........11:14, 15...433
    Eber..............11:16, 17...464
    Peleg.............11:18, 19...239
    Reu...............11:20, 21...239
    Serug............11:22, 23...230
    Nahor............11:24, 25...148
    Terah............11:32........205
    Abraham.........25:7.........175
    Isaac.............35:28........180
    Jacob.............47:28........147

Please note that Adam who was not particularly considered holy by God lived to be 930 years old but notice Enoch who it was said of "kept walking with the true God" died at only 365 years old when others about the same time were living about 900 years.

Also please note how the Bible indicates that life spans decreased as mankind got farther away from the perfection that Adam and Eve once had.

Sorry, I have no explanation for the difference. Of course some sins tend to shorten the life expectancy and conversely a lack of certain sins would tend lengthen life expectancy but people can seemly do everything right and still die young or do everything wrong and live a long time but all have sinned and all will die.

Sorry could you reword this, I'm unsure what you're asking.

That could be but although the life expectancy has been increasing, at this point the upper limit of what one person can live has not substantially increased.
