Best Way To 'coast' In College?

i had loans and scholarships. i went to college because that's what i was always told you're supposed to do after high school. i had no idea what i actually wanted to do with my life, so my goal was basically just to get through college more than it was to get into a specific career. and college was so ridiculously easy, there was just nothing to motivate me to take it more seriously.

plus, i was a really uptight kid through high school, so when i finally got to go blow off some steam, i just took it way too far in the other direction.

 

best way to beat the ENTIRE system and coast thru life itself is to train in a field that interests you and then get a job that doesnt feel like a job because its something you like doing...that way the pay checks are just bonus

Do what you love and the money will follow.

I think the issues surrounding college education are a bit different in England and America.

In England, whilst getting more expensive, its not the gigantic 200k usd expense. You tend to be younger when you graduate. And initial jobs are poor.. often EXTREMELY poor quality for many. The country also operates in a "class system" for many, and in many of the more lucrative fields.

In America, you are a talking a HUGE expense. And I think its not always good value for Ivy League places etc these days. More grads get really well paid jobs( vs English equivalents early on) BUT the employment situation is MUCH worse than it used to be.

Looking at it now, I don't understand why anyone would choose a degree they don't have a huge passion for. The problem is... in England you choose the job you want to do at 25, 35, 55 even SIXTY FIVE, when you are just SEVENTEEN years old!! Utterly ridiculous really!

Looking back, I would NOT have gone to my law school now. Whether I'd have elected for some sporting, creative or business pursuit at 17, 18, 21... now thats a harder question even today - after the experience of having graduated and been in work for a while.

 

Some local politicians reach this conclusion based on the fact that public schools turn out a good number of liberals. They want public resources diverted to private schools that indoctrinate students on the correctness of right wing propaganda.

I think this purely political debate is a major source of misinformation about public education. I know a businessman who once told me, "This country has been in decline ever since they took mandatory Christian prayer and Bible study out of the schools."

 

If you want to use history and choose examples fairly, the democrats and republicans are on the same side, some democrats are just somewhat less despicable than most republicans.

 

it doesn't cost anywhere near that in the US, unless you go to med school or some ridiculously expensive private school.

 

My aunt teaches 'special ed' and gets almost 3 months off and makes $65+ a year for doing next to nothing. She has 'aids' that were hired to do it. They are overpaid democrat commies that teach and lean in that direction. They can strike in my are and ask for almost the moon and get close to it! They are a 'class' of scum that are teaching one sided shit that is culturally bias and politically.



I don't want to be 'part of the system' and another bitch to them, Just a number! They take some from me, I take that amount back, Im not talking im sitting on stamps, Welfare etc, Im talking heating and child/doctor crap.

Ask what can you do for yourself and the folks around you that you side with. We take care of our own, Family and close friends, No need for any others. Again, I like to keep all the money, So 'if' a family member needs help, They don't need 'their' help!

I agree, I would work a 9-5 on the books job if I could do what I want and went to school for. My gf who I have a son with, Is still finishing up school. We will move to an area I can work and where its more fun than a job and the benefits and write offs are more that taxes and can file too. If the garnish, So be it, That's why I have not filed papers, Its 'the easy' way out. Im still on the fence!

Though from your posts, and not to say i disagree with you in parts. It sounds like you should fight for people using law. So maybe you should practice law. You might be very good at it.

The heating 'budget' or assistance? Whatever they call it and my sont has free health care. Other than that and my obama phone, I collect no "handouts". No free money, No free food stamps/EBT etc. I should sign up for any and all "handouts", Sit on the couch! That's what 'they' want, Why not give it to them?



I do currently work, For cash and or donations only. I mean move to an area where I can work in the field I studied and want to do. Might pay shit, But its the only job I can think of, Not being my own boss and work 'on the books'.
I have college, Not enough and don't have enough time for law, Id be old and grey by the time I could practice and pay all that back. Would just get me deeper in a hole as it is now they way its set up.

and
3) a free "obama phone"

so other than those three MAJOR hand-outs, you don't collect any huh?

meanwhile:
i pay for my own heat
i pay for my own health insurance, and i will pay for my own child's health insurance when she's born
and i pay for my own phone.

in fact, i wouldn't even know how to GET an obama phone, because unlike you, i'm not searching out every possible hand-out and taking advantage of the system.


you don't think you should have to pay taxes?! i agree that taxes kinda suck, but how do you expect the government to pay for things like roads?

People with a "drop out" mentality oversimplify so many things that I hardly know where to begin. But let's start with roads. It isn't just the money; it's also the education and knowledge base. How many people here do you think would be able to figure out how to build a highway, if someone gave them the keys to a bulldozer and a paving machine?

Don't want to participate in The System? Don't call 911 when you have an emergency, don't make use of a hospital or airport, don't hire anyone to do anything for you who received a public education, and don't buy any products that wouldn't have been produced without using any public infrastructure or employees who received a public education. In other words, you have to crawl in a hole and live like an escaped convict, pretty much.

 

Assistance= They pay a small portion, I pay the rest.

I do have a phone I pay for, The "handout" phone was a joke to prove how easy it is to exploit and how they will hand them out to anyone.
My sons healthcare is only until he is of a certain age, Then ill pay for it. But again, Why should I when everyone around at the hospital said fill this out and free and clear! Pretty stupid to pass up FREE!

Roads? You have to be fucking kidding me? Gas tax pays for road repairs and expansions. I actually can get on a dozer and level the ground with aid of transit level. I can also run a batch plant to mix concrete to pave it, That's what I did for a job through high school during the week. It is all left over state money that is gas tax and surplus funds, If they don't blow it, They don't get the same # next year.

Three 'major' my ass! A few dollars toward heat, I pay cash the rest, A phone for a joke and to exploit the HNIC, And free child healthcare that 98% of all newborns get anyway. Im pretty sure ive paid in enough to cover that! Unless you need me to pay MORE to cover you're ass or another's? Fuck them!
I have seemed to manage fine doing what I have been doing for many, Many years and will continue to until they stop the programs all together! You either get fucked, Or get to do some fucking, Id rather fuck them back over ten fold!
