Yeah, I was actually offering you support with a caveat, in general rebuke of undies.

when i was an undergrad student, i was partying hard 7 nights a week for a majority of the 4 years. and then getting stoned before class to deal with the hangovers. and i only did the major assignments, skipping most small graded assignments and reading assignments. i graduated with a 3.45 GPA.

no, i didn't learn much of use at that level. that was kind of my point though. i shouldn't have been able to graduate at all with the way i handled it, let alone with pretty good grades. it should be set up so that someone who graduates with dean's list honors most semesters and 2 honor societies on their resume actually has some knowledge to show for it. what's the point of giving grades and honors and such if it's so meaningless?

when i went to grad school i actually took it seriously, and i learned a lot from it. so it is largely what you make it. but my GPA was still only 3.75, not that much different from when i was treating school like a joke. that doesn't really seem right to me.

My point is, if you had "beaten the system" and gotten a job then that you couldn't have held, what would you have accomplished? It seems that you would have only victimized yourself.

OK, so you are proof it can happen. You're proof that you aren't a dumbass and have enough natural intelligence to get through school. I can so relate. But, you're still an exception to the rule. And it also matters to some degree what you plan to major in. Electrical engineering or law aren't going to be as easy breezy as art history or political science for most college students.

Another thing to consider though is that the nature of one's partying can also have an impact. For example, people think that smoking pot makes people stupid. This is absolutely false, pot doesn't affect intelligence. However, it does seem that way to a lot of people. Largely because so many dumbasses out there, are also pot users!

i don't disagree at all. if you go back to my original post in this line of conversation, all i had said was that college is not a good measure of what you've accomplished/can accomplish. so really, we seem to be in complete agreement here.

the measure is in what you can do after college, not what you did while in college.

I somehow doubt you were drunk 7 days a week for 4 years, but even so, it's atypical at best and a pretty weak indictement of college as a whole.
Also curious what your major was.

I'm old enough to remember when it wasn't this way in the U.S. People had more integrity once upon a time.

As far as partying, I did continuously in college, went on probation once, flunked a class or two but also paid my dues by earning enough money to pay my own way and by retaking courses I did poorly in. Never turned in a copied paper or cheated on any exam. If I failed, it was on my own account and if I succeeded it was also due to my own work.
College was a fantastic experience where I met many diverse people and had my eyes opened to realms I didn't know existed before.
As I said, I partied with the best and watched many drop out or coast their way through. I can still pick out the coasters, those who got good grades by raiding frat files for papers, taking easy profs, etc. They're the ones with the closed minds, narrow views and Good Time Charlie attitude to life.

That's fine if that's all you want from life.
But if you have the desire and drive to learn...it just doesn't cut it.

I remember when America was ran by a man who knew how to get shit done! Not just golf and give free "handouts". That's what the dems/libs wanted, That's exactly what they are going to get!

Life is lived when you can do as you please, Not nose to a grind stone. One day you will look up and realize that you wasted many years of youth and are now too old to enjoy life. Im going to have fun and live it up while im young, You pay for it when you get old anyway!

yeah, it was really just 3 years. freshman year i didn't have daily access to alcohol. but the other 3 years, it was every day, with only a few exceptions for hallucinogen nights. sophomore year i was pass-out drunk every day, then after that i calmed down a bit but i still had at minimum a 6 pack every night, and usually significantly more. i grew out of it shortly after graduation. not sure if there was an actual correlation between being in school and wanting to be wasted all the time, or if i just happened to get it out of my system around the same time as i finished school.

my major was psychology with a philosophy minor.

Who would that be, Teddy, Franklin, John, or Bill?
You mean golf and free "handouts"? I thought you said that's what the dems/libs want.
BTW, Thank you for illustrating my point.

None! Bill, The piece of shit who sold us out on 'NAFTA', Blowjob Billy? LMFAO, Are you fucking high? Dems/libs start shit, a GOP has to pay and fix it. History is an example!

The dem/libs want you to sit at home and collect free 'handouts', Why work when you can have the system pay?

Funny thing, I have to pay certain taxes so it my fucking money to begin with. I have to pay a fucking 'school tax' when I was single!
The good thing, I can work for cash, Have my own business and claim nothing and still collect the "handouts" so I get all of my money back.
Dem/libs sit around and try and find out how to scam money out of others so they don't have to work themselves, Im just playing their game and doing well at it! Like mentioned, Its my money anyway, Im just cashing in everyway possible!
Its the new American way! Just doing my part of the obamanation/deconstruction of the current administration and exploit it at all costs!

Yes, it is funny that you should contribute to a more enlightened society.

...and that's the problem. I'll get mine and screw everyone else.

Again, thank you for illustrating my point.

i don't think democrats really WANT able-bodied people to collect welfare. somehow, i think those programs were designed to help people who actually need it. obviously, some people take advantage of the system, but that isn't an excuse to do it as well. i for one, feel a sense of accomplishment by earning my own way.

Well, they DO want it because they want votes. They know there is a segment of the population that wants freebies, and there are more than enough corrupt politicians willing to give them those freebies (after all, it's not their money that's being spent) so they can get voted back into office.

My thoughts. Why bother? Were you paying for school? Nice way to throw money out of the window. I can understand the appeal of this type of lifestyle to those who have the luxury of parent help combined with a social expectation to attend school.

^^^or what if someone wants to go to school in order to be qualified for a particular career?

there are a lot of careers you simply wouldn't be hired for, without a college degree.

The united states is a huge country, With too many people. We also have the poorest education classification compared to other countries. Yea, We have a few good ones, But most are a joke. You would think that a country with as many stupid people as the USA has, And all the high 'taxes' that are always promised lower, Could be used to educate the populous.

A smarter country would make smarter choices, One would think! But as noted by a couple others, Its very easy to do not shit and make it through and graduate from a 4yr college. That shows me that the teachers are too stupid and need more education. Then again, Most only do it to babysit for high $$ and summers off.

Its a dog eat dog world, When will people realize that? Survival of the fittest and cash is king! If the one side is foolish enough to hand out money in the ghettos and minorities, Im going to take back my share to ensure I get my money back in full.

Im sorry, I can think for myself and can control my finical matters, Lib/dems seem to think we cant and want to take and spread out amongst! Fuck them! If they want my money I worked for, They should work too! But since they can sit around and not work and get paid, Why should I pass that up? Its my money?
I don't give a fuck about the 'system', Just like they don't give a shit about me. So I do what I can to exploit and use every loophole I can to obtain and keep what I worked for!

learn everything you're going to take for credit before you take the class, but never let on that you did. also live alone off campus so you can get enough sleep. and don't take any heavier class load then your program permits you to. i suppose it also depends on what you're there for. there's more then one reason you might be, and the best strategy would of course depend upon which of them.
