It was pretty odd to watch that game with no fans there. Sucks for the people who already bought tickets. Hopefuly they got a refund or something.

You are a blatant racist - not much need to attack you there, really.

Of course drug laws are totally insane and immoral and anti-freedom and anti-american.

They had to tackle him? Why do you think they had to tackle him? He had committed no crime. Why did they have to do anything? In fact, it's already been clarified that it was an illegal, false arrest, and would have been so even if he had not been harmed.

There's no reason to think that he hurt himself, no reason to think he hurt himself for money - yeah, some guy allegedly said he heard thrashing - if you think "jailhouse informant" types are worth shit, you need your head examined - it's just some poor guy who didn't want any of what Freddie was having. Hearing thrashing doesn't really seem to go against a mortally wounded individual flailing around - but as far as I'm concerned it could have as easily been a corpse, I'm not buying that it (the injury) had to happen in the van (seriously, we all know about not moving people with spinal injuries, and how it can progress rapidly as nerve bundles are crushed or torn), we just know that they also do that to rough people up, have killed at least one other person that way, and have already had to pay millions in restitution to various individuals for being effectively beat up using a vehicle.

But again, doesn't matter what he did, the issue is with those who killed him.

Who can't move on with the civil rights museum?

Those who are either still wronged and constantly reminded that it should not be so, or those who resent not being able to repress minorities.

At least, those are the ones I'd see to be reminded of negative things by such a museum.

They did get a refund I believe. Still. The entire thing was ridiculous. A baseball game encouraging riotous activities is beyond unlikely. Especially with it being an early season game and its not a rowdy sport to begin with. The whole thing didn't/doesn't sit well with me. I mean its over and done with but i still feel really negatively about it. Which says something if you'd believe it.

Dude. Seriously? ID your source. And even if your source is legit, does it matter? Seriously. Think about this for a bit, ok? Seriously. What if he has done all those crimes. Does it justify the cops murdering him? People keep saying "kill". Kill kill kill. BULL FUCKING SHIT. IT'S A GODDAMN MURDER. So the cops murdered him for...? What reason?

And the protesters, whom I doubt really care about him anywhere near as much as they enjoy committing the crimes they have committed...pardon me, but this is a cop vs. us problem. Cops, them. Us, me and you. They have badges and guns and we have rocks and sticks.

The rioters are the ones turning this into a racial fight. Nothing racial about it that I can see. It's them. The cops. And we are their enemy. And the best way to disspell the mass hatred against them is...by...instigating a racial fight.

Well, well. What do you know. THAT is exactly what the rioters are doing isn't it?

It seems to me that black guys who hang around on Elm Street in Greensboro are angrier most of the time than their counterparts in other similar cities. The museum is in a prominent location, so it's an obvious, daily reminder of a very dark period in the city's history (~1960). Black people on the streets of downtown Winston-Salem (25 miles away, same size) are much less likely to be confrontational toward white strangers. I almost never see anyone being rude there.

I'm very much into history, but I don't think it's good to focus too much too often on the worst parts of it. You know, you can remember history without being obsessed.

Segregated restaurants were an absurd idea, but that problem was solved before I was born. Time to let it go.

The only other difference between those two cities that I can think of that might partly explain the different racial vibe is that Greensboro has NC A&T State University, and their most famous graduate is Jessie Jackson. Some people might be trying a little too hard to imitate his style, which used to be quite confrontational. He mellowed out as he got older.

The last game they had there, when the game was over, there was an incident going on out in the street in front of the stadium, so they had to ask everyone to stay inside the park until the police got things under control. They were stuck there for a while. Nobody wanted families with small children walking out into the middle of a violent situation, and nobody wanted to risk the same thing happening again after the next game.

Well, the best way to show your mass hatred for your local government and all it's moving parts is show up for town hall meetings. Bang down the mayor's door with petitions. Band together and solve the problem of brutality instead of re-opening century old racial wounds. The more we act out as law enforcement expects us to, the more we're going to fit into "a profile", of sorts. I get what you're saying, though - rioters think that skin color has something to do with those bearing a badge and gun who are overdoing their jobs, in which these same rioters turn around and blame the first white individual they can get their hands on, or just blame whites for "oppression". At least that's what it appears to be.

Where I live, you'll get tased and slammed to the ground regardless if white, purple, black or female.

What's Asheville like? (Or pretty much all of the I-40 corridor). I'll be passing through their Friday on the way to Myrtle Beach. Doing the remote work/vacation thing.

Oh, and about the empty Camden Yards thing...I sorta wish someone would have cheered for the Sox...may have helped them avoid getting their brains beat in.

In this state, everywhere outside of the urban / suburban middle is quite different. Asheville and Wilmington have our largest collection of hippies, creative New Age spiritual types, etc. If you have time for lunch in Asheville at a sidewalk café near Pack Square (intersection of Broadway / Patton / Biltmore), you'll be impressed. Use the Merrimon Avenue exit off I-240 and use any parking deck. Lots of interesting stuff in all four directions from Pack Square. Art galleries, eclectic restaurants, New Age stores, street musicians, a head shop, antiques and crafts stores, an independent bookstore, cool bars, and two museums. Battery Park (Patton / College / Haywood) is always full of hippie political activists.

Lots of small redneck towns line up along the western part of I-40. Of that group, Black Mountain is the best (crafts, tourist stuff) and Marion is the worst (mean rednecks). Great mountain scenery on the west end. Beware of Canton. Depending on wind direction, its paper mill smells horrific.

Raleigh to Wilmington is a lot of nothing.

Depending on how long you're in Myrtle, you may have time for a short road trip to Calabash, on the state line. The seafood is to die for, and it's cheap. There's a big cluster of massive seafood restaurants near the harbor where all the fishing boats come in every day; Little River Inlet. The other seafood mecca for Myrtle Beach is about as far in the other direction, Murrell's Inlet, SC. My favorite fun place around Myrtle (other than the beach) is the House of Blues in North Myrtle; outdoor bar with live music.

Outside the middle third of NC, there are no cities with very large minority populations or histories of significant racial issues. Of all those towns, Wilmington probably has the largest black population, including the neighborhood where Michael Jordan grew up. Downtown feels very peaceful.

With a sober mind, I understand. The traditional, drunkard, Murica' crap comes out when I'm drunk. I wasn't always a liberal. Felt good to rant it out though. Not going to lie.

I understand the reality that yes the game sucked. Yes it was pretty insulting, but because no one showed up, no one got hurt. I have to square that as the result that rationalizes the means. Everyone does. It still doesn't quite feel right in hind sight though, I would be lying if I said otherwise.

Surely, it had to be one of the strangest moments in the history of American sports, and deeply frustrating for hardcore fans.

Nobody could make this shit up. Truth really is stranger than fiction.

Sorry for calling you a lightweight Karen. You're well written and seem rather intelligent.

I do eventually get frusterated by what can only be accurately called, intellectual dishonesty. The continued refusal of people to admit to all the data and facts in front of them.

Race realism goes like this. East Asians commit less crime than Europeans who commit less crime than Hispanics who commit less crime than Blacks. Everywhere in the world this is true. Black people, you are not unfairly discriminated against and oppressed everywhere in the world. People of your genetic heritage take part in the same activities everywhere in the world. It's not all of you, but it's a large enough percentage that your neighborhoods always run out of neighbors. Disperse yourselves among the Northerners of the last glacial period, and let's try to kill this hood culture once and for all.

These Chinese people do it. Were they raised by racist parents in the southern US or do you think maybe they repeatedly had bad experience with poor black folk?

    http://news.yahoo.com/no-blacks-chinese-restaurant-shut-down-kenya-082940084.html

I will bet you 100 dollars, that a black person with a 145 IQ has much, much, much, much better economic prospects than a white person with a 145 IQ. High tech industries, businesses of all types are eager and willing to hire intelligent black people. It looks so much better for their demographics. The problems is, with an average IQ of 70 or 85, it's almost impossibly hard to find those people. You're asking them to be 3 or 4 standard deviations higher than their racial average. That creates slim pickins.

How exactly are black people oppressed? Can you admit that capable black people can very easily succeed? Ben Carson comes to mind. He's a dark skinned neurosurgeon. No one held him back, no one is holding any of these kids back. There's a plethora of blacks only scholarships. Black kids get a 230 point boost to their SAT scores. Asians get a 50 point penalty. Are you fucking kidding me? If we're prejudiced against anyone we're prejudiced against Asians.

Oh look, you found one black guy with a good education and job and salary. Amazing. Probably a coincidence that he's the uncle tom candidate who's main appeal is being able to discriminate terribly on behalf of people like you.

You say that people from a largely very poor and strife-embroiled continent (who were often stolen from it and treated as animals on other continents, and are still discriminated against in many ways the world over) tend to be in an underclass the world over? Who woulda thunk it? Must be that they're inferior.

Why... on earth... would you call successful black people uncle toms?

To embrace intellectual pursuits is to be an uncle tom, to "act white", to lose your roots. What an impressive way to hold them back, and discourage potential black intellectuals. For shame roorshack

You want perpetual victimhood. I'm not sure if you're able to connect the dots to see what you're doing. Ben Carson, Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, every successful black intellectual... comes to the same conclusion. You're not the victim of your skin color, certainly not any more. You're the victim of a victimhood mentality. You think white people are the reason for your lack of intelligence genetics, you think you're too far behind and there's no catching up, and you want a cash injection to get yourselves to the next generation and pass the buck.

There's nothing like a good conservative whitewashing on a Wednesday afternoon while hapless liberals are being smeared across every mass media channel conceivable (see also Huffington Post).

Geesh. Wish people would look towards today's problems with a slightly more systematic approach. Maybe work synergetically to get our country back on track instead of mudslinging every new idea.
