You can do that, it just won't be very accurate.

What is the point in knowing your body fat percentage? I thought what was important was knowing if you are within a healthy B.M.I.

From a purely health perspective, that is correct regarding the BMI. But the BMI is very much flawed and does not take into account the muscle mass of an individual. A person can have a much higher BMI than they really do because it assumes that a person carrying an extra 30 lbs must be carrying it in fat.

Body fat percentage would be more important to someone who's into bodybuilding or aesthetics. It probably doesn't apply much to the average person, unless they looking for shredded abs or something of that nature

Yea, I'm not too interested in those things, but I liking my basics; weight, height, whether or I not I'm healthy or at least average. I don't do anything with the informarion, but it's nice to know. Also, I like reading what people who are more into it are interested in, like what new detoxes there's are out there, how bad soda is for you, how great water is, and stuff like that.

    Thanks for answering.

I am satisfied, just making fasting days once a week to keep my weight and doing some exercises.

Based on all the formulas out there that calculate an individuals ideal weight, I am considered underweight. I am satisfied with my weight, and I feel healthy.

I miss those days. I used to be so tiny... I could do a pull-up no problem because there was nothing to me. Now I'[ve got significant heft... I was reading about the plight of short women trying to lose weight, and the article said that overeating by as much as 40 calories a day for us mean around 4 and a half pounds gained per year. So over the course of 10 years, you gain 45lbs. I think that's pretty accurate for me if I think about my weight 10 years ago when I was in high school... Scary stuff... Time to buckle down...

I'm trying to become a connoisseur of protein shakes and smoothies in the morning. Anything to shave off extra calories. I really like to eat, and I love fatty, rich foods, so I have to make compromises somewhere...

I had all the BMI and body fat stuff calculated and the figures were off because I have a flabby gut. I feel like half my body weight is sitting there. I have skinny arms and legs, average boobs and an average butt.

So no, I'm not content with my weight but that's changing. Three pregnancies and 10 years riding a desk did nothing but harm for me so I'm trying to put that in reverse.

If I hit the lottery the first thing I'd do is get a tummy tuck. Sounds awful but I'd be happy with my weight if my stomach were flat.

Belly fat can be hard to get rid of, but it can be done...by creating a long enough caloric deficit. Resistance training also helps.

I got a Divorce, and lost 22 stone..i feel amazing now..

I was born with a condition that stopped me from absorbing fats..not good! when i became stable as a teenager, i was aware of people constantly trying to give me fatty foods, it became a problem in my head, i was given names, like long string of tripe, stick...you name it, i got it, then i found i didnt want to eat, then i couldnt.
people around me decided i was ill...they were the ones making me ill..so i developed strange habbits, like a one food a week diet plan..i became anorexic..again, people became obsessed about my size..
so i got married, wanted a baby, doc said if i didnt gain weight, i would never have children, so i changed, i was 6stone when i got pregnant ..with steroids etc i gained weight..
now im happy with my size, and believe me, i wont ever mess about with it..if i get stressed, i lose it very very quick..being skinny is not all its cracked up to be..be happy with your body, if you can run and not get too out of breath, if you can say you eat healthy, and feel ok, your cholesterol is not high..then enjoy your body size...weight is not the important factor in a healthy body.

Hey, now what happen, just forget that and live your life happily. I too agree with you, weight is not the important factor, but what matters is the fitness. So from now, start those fitness workout which actually depends on your health's strength and the capability of doing so. And just enjoy it. Or have some spam which will affect your health, body, skin, mental health and much more. Just take care of yours.

You know.. I'm not satisfied with my weight come to think of it, but there doesn't seem to be very much I can do about it without making adjustments I'm not always comfortable with. For example I currently exercise for about 20-30 minutes each day. I do cardio things one day and weights types of things the next. I alternate like that so I don't get bored. Well with a little bit more intensive cardio I could lose more weight, but I absolutely hate it. I cannot stick with a plan like that because it doesn't feel good. But I still go to the gym every day.

I could do that yes. That's the most comfortable solution actually, but I'm lazy at that as well!

Honestly wish I could slow down my metabolism. People tell me I'm lucky but 5'11 never been above 135, usual weight hovers around 120. In underweight borderline severely, I'm a skeleton and I eat alot.

Its like a car that gets 6 mpg...if I don't continuously eat I lose weight because its INEFFICIENT metabolism...I give it fuel which it burns too quickly.

Sounds like the state of being constitutionally thin. Such people often have a BMI near 17 to 18. They represent a very small portion of the population. There was an short-term experiment done on a small group of such people. They were overfed about 600 calories per day and they didn't gain weight. Some of them lost weight. Their biochemical metabolic profile is different than the general public. They are not anorexic and don't have an overactive thyroid. Their thinness is due to a resistance to gaining weight, not consuming too few calories.

Where the extra energy goes is still not known. It's believed to be dissipated in non-exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT). Burning an extra 600 calories per day through activities such as fidgeting (NEAT) would seem difficult to do. Dissipating it as heat is another explanation, but that would require extra perspiration to keep the body temperature from going above its normal setting. Wasting the energy by not digesting it or not metabolizing it (a car that gets 6 mpg) would mean that the extra energy would show up in urine, feces, exhalation, or perspiration. A highly controlled metabolic study should be done on such people.

BMI both under-estimates and over-estimates obesity. Data show that it under-estimates obesity more than it over-estimates.

The blog world usually talks about BMI over-estimating obesity. The other half of the story is that it under-estimates. The reason is that as people age most tend to lose lean mass. Few become body builders as they age. This means that for a given BMI, there is a greater percentage of body fat than what BMI would indicate. This means more people are overweight or obese than what BMI estimates, especially people middle-age and later and more so for women who tend to have a lower percentage of lean mass even when they are young.

I could use some more kilograms but I would prefer to add them in muscle, not fat. And I don't feel like committing to produce said muscle. So... I'm pretty satisfied :p
