Why? What is wrong with throwing rocks? The saying comes from a story which gives the particulars context, I was passing along the saying in rebuttal to relaxxx suggesting that christians are to assume sinning.
I think you know the story, there was a group of men who were beginning to stone a woman for the accusation of adultery, the teacher came and told them let those among you who are blameless cast the first stone and they dispersed because they were spurred by accusation, blame. Then he said to the woman, where are your accusers now, go and sin no more.

And so what ever can be said of god can be expressed differently. If you are expressing the same thing differently you haven't changed it's meaning, only the symbols you use to say it. the meaning of symbols lies in their embodied conjugation, the shape of the symbol is secondary or assigned to an embodied conjugation reflecting on experience. Symbols are of conditions. A symbol Is not the condition save the condition in discussion be a symbol but frequently people as you do in this case, confuse form and meaning.

because religious comforts are based on ignorance and often come at the expense of others.

Not to mention that their blissful ignorance is also often detrimental to justice, freedoms and progress.

That's what you choose to focus on. I see it not restricted to religious comforts at all. Anybody who has the luxury of enough comfort can put their blinders on for other people's lack of justice, freedoms or progress. It always comes down to the individual and rarely to the religion/ideology itself (as it is rarely solely their religion/ideology that drives them especially morally, since people are primarily people just like you and me). That's why there are also both very reasonable, logical and constructive/progressive atheists and very overly generalizing, hating and polarizing atheists. If you focus mostly on the latter (because it suits your argument best or whatever reason) it makes this thing called atheism look quite retarded as well

That was not really what I was saying and you know it. What I am saying is that you project that on the religious because you don't like religion. But the majority of christians today are not as dogmatic as you portray them to be. There are shortsighted dogmatic people among any ideology. You project a problem onto them (that the morals and dogmas of their religion conflict with facts and reality) which actually only applies to a minority of them, as most of them embrace reality and facts just like us. Or should I say me (among many others), as you seem to have a distorted perception where it comes to religious folks

 

Well your version has us thinking there is something wrong with throwing rocks or that throwing rocks is a sin. I added the words for justice. To cast stones is to make a pitch and who better to make a pitch for justice than the innocent. I have no need to believe in sin as sin is quite plain, meaning to miss the sign it is an error in perception. All our actions/reactions stem from premises of our world model.. Errors in perception are mistakes in judgement. So unhelpful responses are logical progressions considering the parameters entered. People feel they have good reason for bad behavior. That is why it is heard forgive them, they know not what they do.

The reason I use the sayings is for those who take stock in them that they may see them maybe as they never had before.

Some see forgiveness as allowing indecent acts, a kind of unworthy deceit. Forgiveness meaning to give before is making the decision for now and forever not to pass verdict but to comprehend.

Outer appearance form, and content are not necessarily identical. You can store all sorts of things in a coffee can. due to the fact that we have discussed the terms form and content in this way with no digestive movement umpteen times i thought I would use a different term, perhaps sugar, to help the medicine go down.

To say religious comfort is based on ignorance is to say comfort is based on ignorance.The appearance of comfort in this instance is as advertised, come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest, for my yolk, (joining,) is easy and my burden light, (understanding.) Anxiety is caused by the misapprehension of what is so, therefor the truth relieves anxiety. You being stressed on this issue are a perfect candidate for christ teaching, meaning authoritative teaching, as opposed to christian indoctrination. Ignorance has the same effect whether theirs or yours.

 

I understand what relaxx means...as sometimes religion tries to hold back people on another path...but as long as whatever anyone wants to believe is the truth, is not impeding on anyone else's search for their truths.....I see nothing wrong with any of it.....
