Interesting that most older posters, regardless of the path they took, recommend staying with education. I'm older and that's my recommendation. Now that you're going, full speed ahead. Good for you, man. Cali is something special, esp in the north. Have an amazing time. My experience has been that people who just go and go and go for a job, any job, get one pretty quick. And, atm you're just trying to survive, so (almost) any job is good. Don't burn any bridges; tell the school you're taking a year off. Love many, trust few, paddle your own canoe. Take care with your money.
As the song says; No matter where I am, I can't help thinking, I'm just a day away from where I want to be. If you can't be who you want to be where you are, then moving won't make it so. Nothing wrong with moving to California, I've been there and it's a nice place but there is nothing about California that will suddenly make you the person you want to be.
I feel like a guy that's throwing hot water on your face!. Eureka was voted(by someone or some poll) a few years back as being one of the worst places to live in the US! I drive thru it when I go south a few times a year and I wouldn't want to live there. I believe there are many places out west that would suit anyone better than Eureka. Had something to do with meth-heads,I believe. Anyway-happy trails. THIS IS WRONG!!!!See post below--------
Why my brain substituted Redding for Eureka--I don't know. It was Redding that was voted worst. Sorry--------
Hey scratcho, don't use so much of the local product and you will remember more. Iam tiger paw, once you put money in your head, it cannot be taken from you. Can you take a semester off?
You could learn to bartend or wait on tables, go to a town settle in the winter. Be on the move in the summer. Spend money extremely wisely, throw out the accessory items and learn to craft your own, you might even be able to sell those at festivals if they're intriguing.
yeah, I'm pretty much set for july, found an awesome roommate, my bank account is looking better and better every week, and I'm starting to see a bit of light at the end of this tunnel. Not saying that by going to Cali I will suddenly become the person I want to be or anything, But going to Cali will certainly replace the emptiness I feel now from being somewhere that i do not want to be. Much Love, TP
Life is a game. You need to play it correctly to get the best result. Education stacks the deck in your favor. Eduacation is the foundation for your future choices. All decisions at your age need to be geared towards "does it get me closer to graduating from college." Moving sounds like a distraction.:2thumbsup:
good luck with whatever it is that you choose to do. there is always some risk that you develop health problems, loose your motivation, or become an addict when experimenting with drugs. if you decide to take the risks, you also have to live with the consequences. if you are really feeling a strong urge to go to cali then it is probably best to go. at least you will not have a nagging sense of wondering what might have been. you may find that it is not the spiritual place that you hoped for though. with all the money you've got saved up, you might be better off checking out an ashram in india or a buddhist temple somewhere you might want to try preparing to transfer to a school in cali, in case the job search doesn't work out
Listen to and fully comprehend this concert, particularly tracks #10, #13, #17, and #20. Then, I will allow you to travel to the "Great State" of California. Be careful with the drugs, young one. Line up a job before you go out, if you can. May work out a lot better for you.. P.S. Make sure to camp in the Redwoods for me, and this is only a rehearsal, but if you don't listen to track #57, well...
iamtigerpaw, I had some awesome moments in Cali. I still remember the fragrance of desert flowers in the springtime, I grabbed a ripe lemon off a tree as I walked by, then checking out the bonobos at the SD Zoo, roaming the canyons north of the city, LA blew me away with its size and might. There were parks that were beautiful with exotic tropical plants (amazing to a guy who gardens). And I can hardly describe the feeling I got on the sea cliffs in Marin County, watching the ships heading over the horizon, feeling the vibrations of the surf pounding the rocks, taking BART into a deep tunnel under the Bay, riding street cars and eating Chinese food in Chinatown, feeding seals at the pier. I met a beautiful woman on the beach and we really hit it off well... And I didn't see a fraction of what this place has to offer. But daily life is not like a vacation. With work, school and your routine, your sightseeing will be great, but limited to your free time. I had a friend who was a weekend cocaine binger. He always seemed to find it in a matter of minutes, even in a strange town. I think that someone looking for places of spiritual learning and goodness will find it just as quickly. Sure, look it up, talk to people, but your own heart will lead you to places that feed your soul. Keep your eyes on the prize.
always pleasant to hear from ya GG! i'll be fine, wherever this adventure leads me to! at least i'll be able to say i tried. Much love, TP
if you were given a full scholarship for football, and now have serious injuries, you could be (and should be) able to get them to pay for the rest of your education. did you have an agreement that you signed?
In my teens we took short trip after working for a few months, stayed until the funds ran out, went home and did it all over again Wasn't my thing-got ripped off to many times - hassle with the cops Finally found a job on one of my excursions and never went home. My son and some of his friends are doing the same thing-most have seen the world. Take the scholarship-get an education, maybe meet a hippy and take them on a trip with you
