A doubledecker ride for tourists through the London streets.. quite an experienceopen roof bus..we felt like kings?? sunny day..lots of activity to watch..bobbies..London cabs.. I don't remember which areas of London we did..but it was a big tour.. finally Harrods on Brompton Road...it was interesting..crowded.. and expensive..bought a raincoat for my wife..a hole in my wallet??? my aunt was a big spender..she bought lots of stuff..one only goes once to Harrods???well..they will certainly not see me there again.. http://www.harrods.com/HarrodsStore/ it was our final night in London town..bit of pub and a few pints of lager.. we finally tasted a bit of the U.K..the driving on the left..different time.. anyway..next day..a good breakfast...and back the same way we came.. without a stop in Canterbury..pity..because... I loved that place much better then bustling London..we reached Brussels safely.. my next trip was 8 days Copenhagen(Denmark)by train.. I'll report about my adventures in Denmark soon..funny language.. I could speak it with a hot potatoe in my mouth...jeg er Daensk?? Tiger
Yes..London town..it was huge..our hotel served good breakfast.. eggs/bacon...lots of the staff were from Jamaica..cheap labour force?? so..first day..the classic sites..by coach to Tower of London.. the London dungeon scared the shit out of me the crown jewels..oh well..nice piece of jewelry indeed.. Westminster cathedral..Buckingham Palace..the guards..St.Pauls.. Trafalgar Square..Madame Tussaud took long time to get in.. we had our food in a reasonable place...junk food for tourists.. the Thames river..looked nice on that sunny day... when I was in London in 1970..I slept in Hyde park in the bushes.. I got bloody tired that day..it all was to quick for me..London in a glance?? I never liked big cities anyway..the next day..doubledecker trip..and even Harrod's.. oh my...I had to go in my wallet there..will tell you peeps later.. http://www.ukguide.org/london/attract.html Tiger
Calais was a busy ferry terminal..we all enjoyed the crossing.. duty free shops..the excitement of being on a boat.. Dover was reached...and when our bus left Dover Docks... we could see the white cliffs..my aunt remembered Vera Lynn.. Dover castle overlooks the hill..we just crossed it on the way.. to Canterbury..Dover is just a place..where everybody goes through quickly..I bet no tour package bus from the continent.. makes a stopover in Dover..so..we headed towards Canterbury.. for a short tourist visit..all I recall from this place.. are the buskers on the main street.. Canterbury is a walking town..no traffic.. its cathedral..is the main focus points for tourists.. very ancient and historical..we made a brief visit... http://www.canterbury.co.uk/ http://www.canterburyguide.co.uk/ after that..we headed for our hotel in London.. a 3 star one..good service..and a nice room.. other electricity sockets..uhuh..we even had to adjust our watches.. and a*pint of lager*payed by my aunt..in the hotel bar.. London..big city..in fact..never liked it..give me a Norvegian fjord.. I'll tell you peeps about London..classical bus package tour.. the usual stuff..Tower..Madame Tussaud..a doubledecker bus ride.. Our last day in Luzern..was nothing special to write about.. we took the night express back to Brussels..I went to work in the bloody coalmine again..comradeship is very intense. my co workers..gave my condolence for the loss of my Dad.. in the autumn..my uncle payed us a trip to London by bus.. with a short stopover in Canterbury..we stayed at a reasonable hotel in London..don't recall the exact name.. we took the bus in Brussels and drove via Adinkerke/de Panne.. into France..Dunkerque-Calais..ferry to Dover.. Ohoh..these white cliffs..had not seen them since 1970.. I'll report about this 3 day trip soon.. Tiger
We had to take transport by bus to a place called Kriens.. from there a steep cog railway goes towards Pilatus Kulm.. I've been on these mountain railways before in India.. it's an amazing experience..this line got 48% climb going on.. what a piece of engineering this is..I could'nt believe my eyes.. it's bit over 4,5kms in lenght...and of course nice scenery garantueed.. moreover..it was a sunny day..on the top of the mountain.. which is over 2100m..there's a hotel..well..not for my pockets.. one can take a sunbath..we only made a brisk mountain walk.. we took half a day..going up/down..marvelous..mountains,you know.. next day..last day in Luzern..then back home.. http://www.pilatus.ch/gallery-n100-sE.html# Tiger
