Meatless Lentil and Barley Soup (Revisited)

It's morning and I have to get ready for work. Today I get to play lawyer (complete with button down shirt, tie, and jacket). I've decided not to record the food diary entries today. Just live on the edge one week day.
The house is being painted on the outside; a dark yellow that has a creamy quality to it with very dark brown trim. My gf, the Latin from Manhattan, said that it looks like something from a book of tales. Hopefully she wasn't thinking of one with the big, bad, witch in the forest.
Anyway, the lentils had been soaking going on 48 hours and they needed cooking so I opted to do the work this morning. I added two browned onions, diced baby carrots, diced celery, a half cup of pearled barley, a pound of brown lentils and the magic herbs; thyme, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, marjoram, chervil, French tarragon, garlic, and the tiniest bit of Kümmel.
As it simmers for 45 minutes on a low flame I jump into the douche.
When I exit I have to shave and select a tie.
It isn't easy being me.
At least I will have lentil and barley soup to go with my tuna and crackers at lunch. Sometimes one must think ahead rather than only in the moment!
