I avoid the village
I didn't even know it was there 45 years ago when I left LA and explored the area for prime fishing locales.. eventually worked with a guy who lived in McCloud all his life.. I explained the walls of volcanic rock with 24/7 rivers of water cascading and diff colored rainbows and 4 lb Brown trout..

He told me I was in Hearst property with armed guards..

so I donned still went in 3 tines
rafters took over river and put-in upriver where generations of dads and kids had fished and screwed up tackle..

they prevailed in court that law allows passage on any CA waterway up to prevailing high water mark.. Heart/visitors so angry their retreat was invaded by SF "lower-class" while they were sunning and having cocktails on banks, the rafters would just float through..

kind've funny that commoners were allowed in..

I have until apps showing every CA parcel/owners/contact info

amazing how much acreage Hearts are gobbling up to keep people away with locked gates..

my son picks licks when we go in scouting
got caught once but talked our way out of it.. said gate was unlocked 17 miles away

guard didn't want to go back so asked us to lock it behind us..
