One of my favorite artists is Vincent, and when I visited the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam, his paintings brought me to tears.....You can see his soul in his thick brush strokes. New theories say he did not shoot himself. Someone else did. Guess it will always be conjecture one way or another....To you, Vincent!

I like the paintings of August Strindberg for their mix of abstraction and figuration. He is an influence on my own work:

I also like Morandi for his deceptive simplicity and the way he stuck to his subject matter - namely still-lives of various pots and vessels:

Same here, not only that but my dad used to have some reprints of him already and I watched them all my life (I have one of them in my room here!).
Escher also lived in the closest city near my parents house (the house he lived in is open for visits sometimes) and I just knew his work and was fascinated with it for so long and to such extent he will probably always be a favorite of mine.
In my humble opinion one of the best artists('s work) you can grow up with! :2thumbsup:

edit: I got this one on my wall:

Van Gogh was like lonely comet on the sky

Boticelli is really one of the super artists. You can't standardize him, special even at his time and extremely beautiful.

Other good artists: Felix Valloton, Fra Angelico, Georgia O'Keeffer, Caspar David Friedrich

And movements: Spiritual Art, Healing Art, Space Art, Art Brutal, Bodypainting, Fantasy Art

I absolutely LOVE Caspar David Friedrich. His work is so sublime and mystical.

And George Tooker. I love the sense of alienation he captures.
And Bocklin's "Isle of the Dead" is so menacing yet peaceful. I love it.

I also love Thomas Cole, Ivan Aivazovsky, Frederic Edwin Church (stunning level of detail), and Andrew Forrest (really cool new age-ish art).
